Poetry is when you make new things familiar

and familiar things new.

Our business has been described in many ways over the years, but only recently did it strike me that
we might have something in common with poets. When I read the above quote by Samuel Johnson,
I immediately thought of a comment my mother made many years ago after visiting the Grand Canyon
on our America’s Canyonlands journey. She had been to the Grand Canyon before, but told me “the
first time I really saw it was with Tauck.” With this moving, personal experience we had done our job
of making something familiar… brand new. On countless other journeys, our guests connect with new
destinations, cultures and fellow travelers in ways that last a lifetime. Creating these transforming experiences is what it’s all about.
Throughout 2010, we celebrate Tauck’s 85th anniversary of “making new things familiar and familiar things new.” It’s been 85
years since Arthur Tauck Sr.’s Studebaker left on his first tour of New England. His original, creative formula — providing quality,
all-inclusive, guided travel experiences — as well as the values he passed along, have guided three generations of leadership. His
founding principles have enhanced the lives of nearly 3 million guests who have entrusted their travel with Tauck.
Tauck’s rich heritage and our conservative financial approach (we carry no debt), served us particularly well over this past year. We
were able to take the long view toward the business. Everyone at Tauck worked harder than ever to maintain the highest standard
of quality, to provide exceptional value for money, and to deliver unmatched personal service. We certainly tightened our belts in
2009, but we never stopped developing new travel experiences or investing in the future of the company. Having the luxury to do
this is a real benefit of being a family business and it has put us in a position of strength as the economy rebounds.
Arthur Tauck likes to say “We are in the business of making dreams come true.” That is no easy task. However, our legacy tells us
that if we stay focused on our guests, continue to offer quality and value, and carefully craft unique travel experiences that enrich
people’s lives, we can look forward to making dreams come true for many generations to come.
With warmest wishes for joyful travel in 2010,
