MAKING OF A TOUR
The Tauck
Formula
I thought it would be fun to tell you how we create
journeys that are superior experiences to other guided
products. You may wonder why we would share
the family secrets? The answer is that even if you
understand our approach, it can’t be easily duplicated
without decades of experience, local knowledge and
the kinds of relationships that are simply not available
to others.
So, here I go… There are really six elements, or
standards, that we focus on when building a tour.
If we miss on any one of them, it will fall short of our
own standards.
#5. Deliver Quality
Always premium. Always the best location. If a hotel is a destination
unto itself, we must stay there. No staying down the street. For
example, our hotel in Jerusalem is the David Citadel, where Tauck’s
guest rooms overlook the walls of the Old City – and we made sure
guests spend two nights along the Dead Sea at the award-winning
Mövenpick Resort & Spa (right). We offer à la carte dining when
possible and use dine-arounds for choice and exploration. This whole
area of consistently delivering a high standard of quality is often
where other travel companies cut corners. We don’t cut corners.
#6. Add an Element of Surprise
Little surprises are important. We call them “lagniappes” — an old Cajun
custom that is still widely seen in Louisiana whereby a merchant throws in
something extra. A Tauck lagniappe might be a little gift on your pillow at
night... a taste of a local treat... a meeting with a government official... an
aperitif in a hidden grotto... a private musical performance... To surprise
and delight our guests is key to exceeding expectations. And what are those
lagniappes going to be in Israel and Jordan? Well, we can’t tell you... that’s
why they’re lagniappes! You’ll have to travel with us to find out...
