taking place within the news business. For a long stretch of time, left-lean-

ing media have been able to set the overall news narrative. Even more seri- ously, there has been a flat-out effort to shape public opinion to the benefit of the Democratic Party. The times they are a-changin’,

though. New conservative networks, free speech social media platforms, and independent journalism outlets have broken through the noise, afford- ing people all kinds of opportunities to access the truth. White House press secretary Karo-

line Leavitt sent shock waves through the media establishment when she announced that from now on, the briefing room would be open to “new media” reporters, including podcasts and websites. This means that nontraditional

media outlets will now have greater power to reach audiences across the political spectrum. It may also mean that mainstream

media’s power is on the wane. Establishment media outlets are pay-

ing a price for not having properly cov- ered the previous administration’s failed policies and questionable activities. News consumers were consistently

told that now-President Donald Trump would suffer a loss in the 2024 election, and liberals themselves were apparently becoming fatigued with the daily news mantras that were being served up. In an interview with Mediaite, Jim

VandeHei, co-founder of Politico, assessed the current state of the leftist news media. “The left right now, liberal media,

obnoxious racist, Joy Reid. “Based on her ratings, which were

virtually non-existent, she should have been ‘canned’ long ago, along with everyone else who works there.” In February, FCC Chairman Brendan

Carr opened an investigation of Comcast, as well as NBCUniversal, over its diversity, equity, and inclusion policies, according to the Hollywood Reporter. “I am concerned

has probably never been weaker in my lifetime than right now,” Vande- Hei said. A few weeks prior to the 2024 presi-

dential election, a Gallup poll indicated that “Americans continue to register record-low trust in the mass media.” Only 31% expressed a “great deal”

or “fair amount” of confidence in the media to report the news “fully, accu- rately, and fairly.” Gallup reported that for three years

in a row “more U.S. adults have no trust at all in the media (36%) than trust it a great deal or fair amount. Another 33% of Americans express not very much confidence.” The poll also indicated that a mere

12% of Republicans trust the media, while only 27% of independents main- tained such trust. Mainstream media outlets are held

in particularly low esteem, judging by ratings numbers that have plum- meted since Trump won his historic reelection.

Establishment organizations such

as CNN, NBC, and The Washington Post have experienced precipitous declines in their audiences. People evi- dently no longer feel as if they can trust the liberal media. The Washington Post’s numbers are

startling, and the decline in daily digi- tal traffic during former President Joe Biden’s term is quite telling. According to the digital news

site Semafor, The Washington Post hit its apex shortly after Biden took office in January 2021, with 22.5 mil- lion daily active users. But by the middle of 2024, that nosedived to

that Comcast and NBCUniversal may be promoting invidious forms of DEI in a manner that does not comply with FCC regulations,” Carr wrote, adding: “For instance, Comcast states on its website that promoting DEI is ‘a core value of our business.’” The move comes as Comcast attempts

to spin off its cable channels, including MSNBC, into a separate company that

between 2.5 and 3 million. Reid’s The ReidOut program on

MSNBC experienced a loss of almost half of the show’s viewers following the 2024 election, with numbers plunging from 1.4 million to 708,000. Despite having spouted false nar-

ratives and hatred, Reid inexplicably remained in the network’s prime-time lineup for five years. CNN and NBC News, along with

various other left-leaning news out- lets, have been forced to lay off a significant number of staffers due to sinking ratings. In addition to declining ratings, cor-

porate owners of mainstream networks are having to contend with the shift of power that the Trump administration is bringing to the nation’s capital. Paramount Global, CBS’ corporate

owner, is seeking to merge with Sky- dance Media, and Comcast, NBC’s parent company, wants to spin off cable assets from NBC, including MSNBC. Both of these actions will require regulatory approval. Contrary to what many in the main-

stream media contend, the decline of left-wing media was not due to chang- ing technology. It was caused by man- agement and media figures themselves. The public has grown increasingly

irritated with reporters who refuse to report honestly on legitimate news stories. This has led to a buildup of mistrust, and people appear to have collectively tuned out. It looks like shaved content, one-

sided programming, and veiled pro- paganda don’t make for a very good business plan.

would house CNBC and the Golf Channel, among others. In preparation, MSNBC dumped longtime hosts Joy Reid, whose controversial show aired weekdays at 7 p.m. ET, and Alex Wagner, another progressive stalwart. MSNBC needs to save money as it will

have to develop its own news team and start its own Washington bureau when it splits from NBC News.
