GROWING GENERATIONAL CHASM OVER SEXUAL IDENTITY Do younger folks just feel more comfortable these days “coming out of the closet”? Or have 12 years of progressive influence under Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama left a lasting impact? Whatever the answer, Gallup’s data clearly show that with each successive generation, the tendency to view oneself as outside nontraditional sexual and gender roles has grown more and more prevalent.

Helter-Skelter: Over 20% of Gen Z Say They’re LGBTQ+

Stunning new Gallup Poll reveals more young Americans are attracted to both sexes.

T BY DAVID A. PATTEN

he number of americans who identify as LGBTQ+ has nearly tripled since 2012, a trend that could foreshadow

profound changes in how millions of Americans perceive their own gender and sexuality. Gallup reports nearly one in 10 Americans now identify as LGBTQ+. That’s twice what it was in 2020, and there’s no sign that trend will slow anytime soon. The biggest change is among Gen-

eration Z respondents. A stunning 23% of those who came of age after the turn of the millennium now say they fit into the LGBTQ+ category. Most of the change stems from more young- er people identifying themselves as attracted to both sexes, aka bisexual.

10 NEWSMAX | APRIL 2025 In fact, America’s LGBTQ+ identi-

fication has increased every year since Gallup began the annual poll in 2012. About 14,000 U.S. adults participated in this year’s survey. The younger a respondent was,

the more he or she is likely to identify as LGBTQ+. The growing incidence of LGBTQ+ identification among the young could mean the demographic shift will con- tinue for some time. Gallup senior editor and researcher Jeffrey M. Jones stated, “The rate of LGBTQ+ identification is likely to continue to grow, given the generational shifts underway.” Only 1.8% of Silent Generation Americans born prior to 1946 call themselves LGBTQ+. Just 3% of boomers and 5.1% of

NO ROOM FOR CONFUSION — LGBTQ+ NUMBERS HIT ALL-TIME HIGH The Gallup polling organization’s survey of over 14,000 U.S. adults shows roughly one in 10 Americans now considers themselves LGBTQ+ — an all-time high since polling on the question began in 2012.
