INNOVATION The last and crucial Origin characteristic is designing and configuring bespoke, cutting edge solutions for specific applications. Every project holds its own complexities and demands and with forward planning technical bottlenecks and obstacles can be predicted and offset. A good example of this would be the centralised remote working solution the Origin team designed and configured for The Championships, Wimbledon 2021. The challenge was the limitation on staff numbers working in close proximity on-site. The requirement was to deliver a low latency multi-seat editorial set up with production review and input for live broadcast. The team achieved this by installing numerous in-house designed ‘Origin Freedom Platform’ edit systems at BBC Sport Salford. Origin further utilised the high speed Nimbra Edge, low latency, lossless media transport to connect each workstation to the Avid Media NEXIS storage, Avid Interplay and Origin’s EVS network located 200 miles away in London. This resulted in the live edit being almost immediately available for playback within the outside broadcast trucks on-site. The smoothness and reliability of the operation was boosted by ten of EVS’s new ‘XTAccess Units’ running on ultra-servers that had been designed and specified by Origin’s technical team. Origin’s new ‘EVS XTA Ultra Servers’ enabled the whole post team to work more efficiently and gain access to critical media in half the time when compared to the previous year’s workflow.
