Justin is an operational fi re offi cer in Queensland Fire and Emergency Services with 24 years of service.


Combining this extensive experience with knowledge from previous positions in building fi re safety, he trains on fi refi ghting in the built environment, with a focus on high rise buildings. As an active researcher, writer and presenter on that subject nationally and internationally, he aims to bridge the knowledge gap and challenge current practices in the building and construction industry and the operational world of fi refi ghting and emergency response. Ian began work as a trainee sprinkler engineer at How Fire in 1979, where he spent 17 years.


Working in various design, project management and commercial roles at Vipond Fire and Compco Fire Systems, he most recently worked at Argus Fire, where he was appointed sales director. Ian also has experience of a range of fi re protection systems and joined the FPA as principal consultant in 2019. A Chartered Engineer since 1990 and with a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, he has also worked on a diverse range of projects from power stations to warehouses and commercial offi ce buildings.
