HE FPA Infozone at FIREX 2019 will see industry specialists give talks at our free to attend theatre. Tweets and pictures from the show will be posted during the

FPA expert perspectives


FPA managing director Jonathan O’Neill will begin proceedings on the first day with an update on the post Grenfell world and implications for fire safety and regulations (10.30am), followed by head of training John Briggs, who will discuss the obligations of the responsible person and prosecutions (12pm). Technical consultant George Edwardes will then cover good maintenance of sprinkler systems (1.30pm). On day two, Dr Jim Glockling, FPA technical


director, will give his own post Grenfell update (11.15am), before risk assessor Tom Stallard explores the topic of knowing the correct fire alarm category for buildings (1.30pm). Mr Briggs will then conclude with a talk on defi ning and understanding competency (3pm). Day three will see principal consultant


Howard Passey speak on competence for fire risk assessors post Grenfell (11.15am); and to conclude the final day, practice principal David Poxon will present on a subject still to be confi rmed (1.30pm).


Other focuses


BT Redcare’s Sodhi Dhillon and Phil Cain will cover each day a subject to be confi rmed (Day one 11.15am; Day two 12.45pm; Day three 2.15pm). Chris Callow of London Fire Brigade will outline common failures and lessons from care home fi res on the fi rst day (12.45pm), ahead of Secured by Design's Michael Brooke speaking on keeping buildings safe with third party certifi cation (2.15pm). Fireco’s Pete Davies, then examines safe evacuation for the hard of hearing (3pm). John Davidson of NSI opens day two with a


talk on a subject to be confi rmed (10.30am), then Pinsent Mason’s Laura White will cover fire safety proposals and implementation (12pm). Finally, BAFE’s Chris Auger will explore competency in relation to fire risk assessors and third party certification (2.15pm). The final day sees Ramtech’s Crispian Robinson present a talk on the use of wireless technology in managing built environment fire risks (10.30am), before Roger Gentle of Gentle Fire Solutions analyses evacuation in complex environments (12pm). Finally, Colt International’s Conor Logan will discuss smoke control for buildings (12.45pm). A report will appear in next month’s issue
