Cladding solutions FOCUS Case study – 250 City Road, Islington
COMPRISING 42 and 36 storey towers, the 250 City Road development for Berkeley Homes in Islington, inner London, forms part of a regeneration package. This will witness a low density, 1980s built business park transformed into a high density, low energy residential community. Along with 930 apartments, the landmark project also features a two acre landscaped plaza, which will be home to restaurants, shops and cafes, as well as a four star, 190 room hotel. The two towers are clad with a fully
glazed, aluminium curtain walling system, and this complements the brick and natural limestone lower podium buildings. In order to seal the gap between this external curtain walling system and the floor slab, whilst maintaining continuity of fire resistance, Siderise provided a range of systems including their certified CW-FS curtain wall fire stop system, along with its RH ‘open state’ horizontal and RV vertical cavity barriers. Working with building envelope
contractor Lindner, it recommended both a bespoke CW-FS 120 for the bullnose detail on the façade of the tower, while for the narrow cavities, a closure seal
which conformed to the required integrity and insulation rating was advised. In addition to being an effective seal against the passage of fire and smoke, the CW-FS products will function as an effective acoustic enhancement. Whilst the specification of the correct
product is vital, the quality of the installation of a life safety critical product is equally important. Throughout the application, the Siderise QA inspection and reporting app provided Lindner with an efficient way of effectively inspecting, recording and auditing the quality of the fire stopping installation. Also, by capturing the relevant information on a tablet device, these contractors were able to highlight any issues in need of resolution. This app allows users to easily update data,
input fields, capture multiple photographs for each area or element inspected, and then record in accordance with recommendations, or otherwise. A comprehensive report is immediately generated, and this offers feedback on the quality of installation in the areas inspected and whether or not it is in accordance with recommendations, thus identifying those areas which require remedial treatment
