TALKING SENSE 1 2

How are you preparing for Brexit? Well, we are fortunate in that we are already a company with a foot in Europe and a foot in Britain, so that helps. We still don’t really know how Brexit will affect us. Whatever happens, our response will be to ensure our future ability to serve our customers and consumer’s needs. We are working on expanding our global reach of course. Part of this will be working on expanding our US business, as well as the regions and countries within the EU where we see potential for growth. Le Chameau is, unsurprisingly, already popular in France, but also in Germany and the Benelux countries. One of the ways we see that happening is by finding partners in those countries who are like-minded and understand this truly authentic brand.

What do you see as your main mission as head of Le Chameau? We make handmade, artisan country boots, for people who want the best comfort, performance and pride. Our choice and commitment to still make our rubber boots by hand is what makes us truly distinctive and able to deliver a unique product

and experience for the consumer. We could change manufacturing approaches, buy cheaper materials, but then they wouldn’t be Le Chameau boots. At Le Chameau we want to enable our consumers to find those special moments of truth in the countryside. Too many boots have a country look to them but do not live up to that promise. We want to be able to guarantee comfort and performance all day long when you are out in the field. We want our customers to wear the boots with a sense of pride and the knowledge that these are authentic, that they are not just for show. This is what truly drives Le Chameau products and what we consider to be our mission.

Are you a countryside person yourself?

I am! I’ve been a passionate fisherman since I was six years old,

and still love it today – any sort of fishing, be it coarse fishing, sea fishing or fly fishing. I live in a small Hamlet in Nottinghamshire on a smallholding with my wife, five children, dogs, horses and sheep et al. As a family the majority of our free time is spent outdoors – so I have a pretty busy and full life!

What is a red-letter day for you? I love the whole gamut of fieldsports, so it’s hard to choose, it would be between stalking with a vintage cane rod and handbuilt reel for a fish of my choice or a frosty morning on a shoot with good friends. Spending time with the family tops everything though, so a lovely long Autumn walk with the dogs, a good pub lunch and then home to a roaring fire is always hard to beat!
