Too many eggs in one basket

I can’t agree with you more – the tackle market is a mess and it’s all been caused by greed of the money boys. I’m not one to shun ‘progress’ – but the situation that we find ourselves in today has gone too far. When manufacturers are supplying dealers that are willing to sell at below cost, I’m afraid they deserve everything that is coming to them. Unfortunately I fear that some manufacturers have dug themselves

into a hole that is now so deep, that the only alternative they now have is to sell direct. Whether that means selling direct via the web, or buying their own shops direct, I do not know – but that is certainly what I am hearing from some of the reps coming into my shop. So what is the answer? I do not profess to know – but I suspect when the yearly results come out from the likes of Angling Direct and Fishing Republic, then there may be another shake up. The trade was warned about putting all of its eggs in one basket

and many, but not all, chose to ignore the warnings. It will be interesting to see how they dig their way out of this one!
