DSM LAUNCHES ITS LATEST BREAKTHROUGH INNOVATION


BALANCIUS™ IN THE EU DSM has announced that Balancius™, the latest innovation developed as part of its Alliance with Novozymes, is now available in the EU. Balancius™ is a microbial muramidase designed to support gastrointestinal functionality thereby optimizing the feed efficiency and consequently supporting the sustainability of broiler production. Successfully launched in the USA and Latin America in September 2018, Balancius™ is now authorized for sale for broilers in all EU countries (Regulation (EU) 2019/805 of 17/05/2019). An innovat ive feed ingredient ,


Balancius™ hydrolyses the major cell wall component (peptidoglycan) in the dead bacteria, present in the gut, thus improving nutrients availability. This unique mode of action differentiates it from the other solutions in this field, which indirectly target living bacteria. By including Balancius™ in the feed for broilers, feed producers can improve feed conversion ratio by 4–6 points (3%), translating to significant cost savings. Balancius™ has also been shown to substantially increase breast meat yield and to enhance animal welfare through drier litter. Balancius™ is the latest innovation from the Alliance of DSM with Novozymes: “Together DSM and Novozymes have developed a solution that contributes to the growth and welfare of animals by digesting bacterial cell debris from the gut. Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) estimates of greenhouse gas emissions in chicken production, Balancius™ could reduce emissions by an estimated 9m tons globally – the equivalent of 3.7 million cars being taken off the road. This announcement is supported


by data from more than 80 international research and customer evaluation studies. Ongoing trials are currently addressing the potential for the extension of Balancius™ into other species, starting with turkeys, which has already a favorable EFSA opinion published early May 2019. To date, Balancius™ is available in EU,


in most Latin American countries and in the USA while launch in South-Asia is expected in the coming months.


NEW EU AUTHORIZATION FOR


LEVUCELL SB Lallemand Animal Nutrition is proud to announce its live yeast probiotic strain Saccharomyces cerevisiae boulardii CNCM I-1079 (LEVUCELL SB) is now authorised as a feed additive for use in all pigs in the European Union (EU) (Regulation (EU) No. 2019/892 and Regulation (EU) No. 2018/347). LEVUCELL SB is now available for


all stages of the swine production cycle including: suckling piglets, pigs for fattening; boars; gilts; sows; and weaned piglets. It can also be used in all minor porcine species such as wild boars. To date, this is the only zootechnical feed additive in the European Union with such an extensive authorization for swine production. While the application of LEVUCELL


SB in sows and piglets is recognised to support performance, recent research


conducted in partnership with the French Agronomic Research Institute (INRA) has shown very promising results on digestibility and growth performance in fattening pigs. These benefits were even greater under high temperatures, helping the animals to cope with the deleterious effects of heat stress.


NEW FORAGE INOCULANT RANGE REPLACES BIOTAL BRAND


IN THE UK A new range of forage inoculants featuring the first totally new bacterial strain approved for over 20 years will help significantly increase aerobic stability in clamps to reduce heating, while giving greater flexibility over when clamps can be opened according to forage specialists Lallemand Animal Nutrition. The Magniva Platinum range from


Lallemand Animal Nutrition replaces the Biotal range of inoculants in the UK and Ireland. They still contain L. buchneri 40788 the most widely proven bacteria for improved aerobic stability, but also include L.hilgardii I-4785, the first new bacterial strain approved for use in forage inoculants for over 20 years. The new bacterial combination has


been independently proven to help reduce the extent and consequences of waste while also giving greater flexibility over clamp opening. The Magniva bacterial combination


produces a number of antifungal compounds during the fermentation which significantly reduce the populations of both yeasts and moulds so reducing the threat of heating. Silages treated with the new combination took longer to heat up and didn’t heat up to such a high temperature, preserving feed value. They also remained more stable for longer.


The Magniva Platinum range includes


five crop and condition specific inoculants for lower dry matter grass, high dry matter grass, wholecrop and two maize products.
