YARA BOLIFOR® FA3000S enhances palatability in animal diets,
saving money for the farmer Weaning is the most critical period in pig production due to the sudden modification of feeding and rearing conditions. Low feed intake (FI) after weaning can lead to detrimental morphological and functional gut changes, which then results in diarrhea and poor performance
in newly-weaned pigs. Retarded growth at this stage is known to impact on subsequent lifetime performance, leading to economic losses. Choosing the right ingredients and additives to ensure optimum FI in weaners to hasten gut development is fundamental. Yara BOLIFOR®
FA3000S has proven ability in increasing palatability
in weaner piglets. A recent trial to investigate whether feed phosphate source
- A broad-spectrum smectite clay mycotoxin binder
affects feed preference (or FI) in weaner pigs was carried out by Yara in partnership with SNBA. The assessed phosphorus sources differed in the digestible phosphorus (P) content. It was found that:
• Piglets preferred the diets containing BOLIFOR ® MSP and
FA3000S over diets containing dicalcium phosphate or defluorinated phosphate • The preference for diets including BOLIFOR ®
MSP and +44(0)1335 341102
FA3000S, characterized for their high P availability, after a P deficiency period points towards the ability of weaners to select the diets that best compensate a previous P shortage. • Those mineral sources can help piglets to better overcome weaning by promoting their FI. • The effect of feed ingredients on FI should also be considered in feed formulation to ensure that nutrient requirements are fulfilled.
