Children’s Charities Raise Over £20,000
Two leading children’s charities have received £10,000 each to help disadvantaged, disabled and hospitalised children following a series of charity cricket matches organised by McDonald’s Franchisee, Ken Hair and the Lord’s Taverners Wales. The two charities – Lord’s Taverners Wales and Ronald McDonald House Charities - joined forces last autumn at the SSE Swalec Stadium to raise money with a host of celebrities and cricketing stars taking part. The teams featured a star-studded line-up including Ashes 2005 hero Simon Jones, former England pacemen Andy Caddick and Saj Mahmood, as well as Glamorgan legends Dean Cosker and Mike Powell. A cheque presentation, sponsored by HSBC, took place at the recently- opened Ronald McDonald House in
Cardiff The Lord’s Taverners Wales were presented with a cheque to go towards giving young people a sporting chance. In addition, Ronald McDonald House Charities was presented with a cheque to support new state-of-the-art accommodation in Cardiff and beyond, where families who have children being treated in hospital can stay free of charge and for as long as they need. The new £6 million House is run by Ronald McDonald House Charities and has been developed in partnership with the Cardiff and Value University Health Board. The 30-bedroom House is located across the road from the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital and will be available to families of children being cared for there, and to those with babies in the neo-natal unit at University Hospital of Wales.

by Will Aid, which runs a will-writing campaign for charity every year, found that 41.5% of over 18s in the region have not prepared this vital piece of paperwork. Will Aid Month, which takes place
every
November, encourages people to write a will with the help of a professional solicitor. Law firms pledge their time to write basic wills, with clients making a voluntary donation to Will Aid instead.
Donations support the vital work of
the nine partner charities. The recommended donation for your basic Will Aid will is £95 for a single will and £150 for a pair of mirror wills. Those who wish to book a will can make their November appointments from September onwards. Last year Will Aid raised more than £1.25 million for its charity partners – ActionAid, Age UK, British Red Cross, Christian
Aid, NSPCC,
Save the Children, Sightsavers.
