LOCAL FOOTBALL CLUB SCORES NEW KIT SPONSORED BY TAYLOR WIMPEY

A football club in Torfaen will be sporting a fresh new kit next season after securing a sponsorship deal with developer Taylor Wimpey South Wales. The local housebuilder – which is currently building high-quality homes at its new Maes Brychiad development nearby – has donated to Race AFC which will be used to buy brand new football kits for its seniors and U8s. The teams, who train every week at Coleg Gwent’s Pontypool Campus football ground in Torfaen, will play matches wearing the Taylor Wimpey colours, emblazoned with the developer’s logo across the shirt. Scott Jenkins, Club Secretary at Race AFC, says: “It means a lot to us that a big company like Taylor Wimpey is supporting us – it’s becoming harder and harder for us to afford new kits on top of training facilities. “The Taylor Wimpey development is about a mile and a half from where we are based and I’ve been passing it for quite a while so I dropped them a line. “We sent out so many letters to people with no reply – so I was over the moon when Taylor Wimpey responded to our tweet within an hour to say they were interested!

“They wanted the kit to be in their colours but left it up to us to decide which design we preferred. It was a real

team effort, they were fantastic.” Race AFC, which was founded in 1905, is run by local volunteers and consists of a senior team, a disability team, and a junior section that includes U11s, U14s and U16s and, in response to popular demand, a newly formed under 8s team. Scott adds: “I’d like to say a massive thank you to Taylor Wimpey for the support – we are gobsmacked that they were willing to donate towards our new kits.” Sara Taylor, Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey South Wales, says: “At Taylor Wimpey we are committed to supporting the communities in which we build our new homes, so we were delighted to purchase the new football kits for Race AFC. “We hope all of the team players enjoy wearing their new strip and wish the club every success for the future, both on and off the field.”
