Keith named amongst the best in Wales after picking up industry award
A Bellway site manager is celebrating being named one of the best site managers in Wales after picking up a prestigious industry award. Keith Parsons is one of only 25 site managers in Wales to have won a Quality Award in the 2017 NHBC Pride in the Job Awards, one of the housebuilding industry’s most prestigious awards programmes.
Keith won his award for his work at Monks Meadow, a development of 182 new homes which is being built on the former Llanwern Steelworks site, off Queensway in Newport.
He has been in charge at the development since the first works were carried out at the site in August 2016, and credited the team at the site for the award. He said: “It’s great to be recognised for the work you do and I’m very happy to pick up a Quality Award. “I’ve been lucky to have a good, strong team behind me at Monks Meadow since we started and the tradespeople that we have used here

have been a great help as well, which is always key to managing a successful site. “You have to be committed to doing the best job you can do to be successful in this industry, and the team here always take pride in their work. Hopefully we can go on and win another award later in the year.” Keith has built up some extensive experience in the industry after starting as an apprentice carpenter in 1976. He is now in his 20th year working for Bellway, and said he enjoyed passing his experience on to younger people in the industry.
He said: “Being a site manager is very much like being a teacher to the younger people who are entering the industry, and helping them understand the attention to detail and hard work you need to be successful is something which I enjoy.”
The NHBC Pride in the Job Awards recognises the best site mangers in the UK. Over 16,000 site managers are put through a rigorous 12 month
judging process, which assesses skills such as leadership,
technical expertise, interpretation,
consistency, attention to detail and implementing health and safety controls. Keith will now join the other Quality Award winners at the regional awards ceremony later this year, where a Seal of Excellence and the regional award are up for grabs. Construction Director for Bellway’s Wales division, Andy Backhouse, said the award was testament to Keith’s skill as a site manager.
He said: “Keith has done an excellent job at Monks Meadow and we’re delighted to see him being recognised for the quality of his work by the NHBC.
“It takes an incredible standard of craftsmanship and attention to detail to win a Quality Award, and we’re proud to see Keith named as one of the best in Wales. “The award is fully deserved and everybody at Bellway Wales will be cheering him on at the regional awards later this year.”
