Two Welsh charities will share a £7,250 boost raised through a charity Golf Day organised by Cardiff partnership housing developer Lovell. Nineteen teams competed in this year’s event at Whitchurch Golf Club, just north of Cardiff. Golfers included the company’s own staff as well as teams representing its clients, subcontractor partners and consultants. Housing developer Lovell is based locally at the Greenmeadow Springs business park, Tongwynlais, north Cardiff. Te money raised has been shared by Cancer Research Wales and Shelter Cymru. Shelter Cymru was chosen to benefit by Lovell while Cancer Research Wales was the charity nominated by Tirion Group. Lovell is working in partnership with Tirion Group and Cadwyn Housing Association to create Te Mill, a major new homes development in West Cardiff. with prizes including international rugby tickets and a Kindle Fire. Tere was also entertainment in the shape of a general knowledge quiz hosted by Apprentice star Daniel Lassman. Kate Rees, Lovell regional managing director for South Wales and the South West, says: “Our thanks go to everyone involved in a thoroughly enjoyable event which has raised such a large sum to aid the valuable work of both Cancer
Research Wales and Shelter Cymru. “I’m particularly grateful for the continuing support of Whitchurch Golf Club, the hard work of the Lovell organising team, the kindness of the individuals and businesses who donated prizes for the auction and the generosity of our clients and supply chain partners who took part. Teir combined efforts helped make this a very memorable day.” Tis is the 24th year that Lovell has held
the charity golf event. Cancer Research Wales charity director Liz Andrews says: “I’d like to thank Lovell and Tirion Group for supporting Cancer Research Wales. Tis generous donation will support the world-class research projects that we are funding in Wales. Scientists here are among the very best in the world; every day they’re making great discoveries in the areas of early diagnosis, better treatments and preventatives of cancer for the benefit of cancer patients everywhere.” Shelter Cymru head of fundraising Kerys Sheppard says: “We were extremely grateful to receive such a fantastic donation from Lovell and all of the teams who took part in the Golf Day. Last year, more than 25,000 people in Wales became homeless, including more than 4,700 children. Tat’s more than 12 children losing their home every single day. No one should face homelessness alone and thank to the generosity of supporters like Lovell, we can be there for families and individuals when they need us most. Diolch!”
