A multiband 4G router working in conjunction with your VSat system will ensure the cheapest available wireless broadband connection is always in use. Our latest Hubba X4 Global has truly worldwide capability to connect to shore based mobile networks and can also connect to free Wi-Fi in port. By sending out continuous ‘pings’ on all available routes, the Hubba will quickly identify if a cheaper connection is available and then switch over automatically according to user set priorities. In a typical scenario, a vessel located in its home port will be connected to the marina Wi-Fi, then on departure will switch to 4G until far enough away from land to fail back to VSat. On returning to shore the process works in reverse. We advise using separate access points onboard to provide a seamless experience for connected devices.
Since 2007, I’ve been skippering the 170’ Royal Huisman schooner Meteor with the previous 27 years spent racing, captaining other large yachts and working in the charter market. With owner and guest comfort of paramount importance, it was clear that the design, performance and construction of yacht tenders needed more attention. A yacht captain’s responsibility is far-reaching: it includes the total guest experience from the moment they leave the shore. The yacht tender is, at times, their very first encounter with the sea. To set the tone, the tender must ferry passengers, often totalling 20 or more, in style with proven ergonomics and performance while providing a smooth, fast and dry ride. The boat must handle all conditions, plane easily, be fuel efficient and maintain efficiency and comfort in low cruise speeds. The yacht tender is a critical part of the yachting experience.
The biggest problem you usually face when retrofitting any electronic device is compatibility. The good news is that if you stick to speaker installation, the existing cables can often be re- used. Adding an amplifier to an existing system is the most effective way of improving the audio performance onboard. Not only does it give you more volume potential, but in most cases the external amplifiers have superior sound reproduction values. Our new Apollo series, for example, eliminates a lot of the traditional issues with retro fitting multi-room audio systems because of the wireless ‘PartyBus’ set up. Not only is installation simple and effective thanks to built-in Wifi and the ability to connect to a yacht’s existing network, but it lets users enable different audio sources to be played in different areas of the boat. The Apollo Series is a real gamechanger for premium audio entertainment in the marine industry.
Voly has evolved from a simple expense management platform to the fully integrated, multi-currency payment platform it is today. This evolution was driven by a need identified within the yachting market for a ‘one-stop-shop’ financial solution. Before Voly clients had to utilise multiple platforms for managing purchase orders, logging invoice payments, FX trades and credit cards all of which were being charged at extortionate rates for convenience by big banks potentially delaying payments by weeks. We wanted to create a platform where these could be managed in one place whilst giving clients the assurances that we are bringing them the most competitive rates in the market. With Voly our clients have the convenience of a single platform, with access to their full operational accounts allowing for complete visibility and control of authorisations and budgeted spend.
