Keep Calm and Carry On Having suffered the first lockdown, it seems that the hire sector is in a better position to withstand the second. That’s not to say it will be plain sailing, of course. A reliable source on the supply side already reports difficulties with consignments caught in transit and a 10 percent increase in shipping costs. While one of our hirer contacts tells me that the DIY ‘bubble’ has burst – most likely due to the time of year– but that he has seen an increase in the number of short term hires at the expense of longer term contracts.
