Joining this industry just as the pandemic was about to strike, it has taken me the subsequent couple of years to understand just how quiet things normally get in the sector over the summer months – particularly in associated manufacture. Nobody is complaining, you understand, but ‘ticking over’, as reported by a number of hirers and suppliers, seems like a bit of a comedown compared to buoyant trading earlier in the year. Normal service will surely resume, with the kids back in school by the time you read this, and we hope that you’ve had an enjoyable break in the interim. Back to this edition, and hire profiles include a well- known name up north and an offshoot of the multifarious Ainscough family. Meanwhile, we catch a chat with Pramac, as it continues to assimilate the former Off Grid Energy business, the Hire Supply Company discusses the fraught topic of Global Warming Potential (GWP), Nick Johnson looks at the new Merlo electrics and we round up the latest power generation and energy storage equipment.
