Pramac-Generac UK - Profile

“I would say so. We are well-structured, in a way that allows us to support and cover an important part of the global demand of the product.”

High demand is probably a nice problem to have, but does this mean that the lead times for new products are extending?

“Actually, that’s one of the areas where we have improved significantly, because we have reinforced our supply chain. To support production, we just invested in a 16,000ft warehouse across the road, just to store spare parts and manufacturing components. This means that we’ve been able to dedicate more space to manufacture in the main unit.”

With all this expansion, has the headcount grown too?

“As Pramac Generac UK LTD we’re 100-plus across two UK sites. At Rugby we now have in-house finance, sales & marketing, purchasing and product development teams. Since Pramac has taken ownership we’ve introduced Lean principles, we’ve been able to improve education and training, and we’ve brought in a lot of manufacturing expertise, I feel that we have really improved the infrastructure and geared the business up for further success.”

On that, has Pramac changed the way that products are constructed - for instance, do you still use second-life automotive batteries?

“Second-life batteries remain an option and an important part of what we do. The supply chain is in place to support the supply of second-life batteries and this is a proposition that we continue to work on to develop and improve. However, as standard, our ‘rental spec’ product is built with new, automotive- grade lithium-ion batteries.”

Alternative fuels have come to the fore in recent years. Are any Pramac or Off Grid products compatible?

“The vast majority of our diesel generators can run on HVO and for sure we look with interest to Hydrogen and other smart fuels. Today’s energy grid is facing an unprecedented set of challenges, the need to transition away from fossil fuels towards renewable energy sources, spiking demand due to the increased electrification of electric

vehicles, homes and consequently infrastructure instability. As Pramac-Generac UK, we have the widest range of hybrid power solutions in the market to face these new challenges.

“We have available a full spectrum of products supporting the reduction of emissions, such as our latest hybrid lighting towers and generators.

“Our mission for the future is continued growth, offering leading edge technology and evolving to more resilient, efficient and sustainable energy solutions.”

As mentioned, Pramac has the infrastructure and expertise to deal with major clients. On that basis, what projects are you involved in?

“We’ve recently secured a fantastic deal with Power Electrics to supply 200 units of our LX45/90 for their ever-expanding hire fleet. Such investment is massive for a family-led business and it’s on a project-scale for us, thanks to this project, we will be able to improve our production and share our knowledge to their engineers and customers.”

Has the acquisition of Off Grid lived up to your expectations?

“Yes it has. Customers, both existing and

new are very keen to meet us to discuss the technology, have a product demonstration and receive our 1st class product training. Our Off Grid range complement our Mobile solutions so well, we’re able to offer a full package of sustainable products to market - ECO lighting towers, Stage V generators, hybrid generators and now battery storage. We really are moving towards a bright and sustainable future.”

Lastly, how do you see the business developing in the longer-term?

“I’d say watch this space. There is excitement about the future and we are extremely passionate about the products and the technology.

“Our experience has enabled us to provide solutions both in terms of technologies and applications, but also in terms of differentiating the offer based on customers and market's requests. We look forward to welcoming you back and showing our progress.” n
