adding 55+ brand new units to the fleet through working alongside renowned British cabin manufacturer Thurston,” says Dan.

“But there is still a lot more room for growth. Although our head office is based in Leeds, you can access our full hire fleet from any of our depots, which allows us to provide a quick service locally to the entire north of England.”

“Our focus has always been to provide a premium offering for cabins at competitive rates, just as we do with our plant fleet. These large investments have allowed us to drastically expand our fleet and ensure we can provide the level of quality that our customers expect.” adds Tony.

To that end, Chippindale has fully equipped all of its depots and also features various specialist functions at head office, such as its own shot-blasting and all-weather custom paint facilities for plant and cabins. While here today, I’ve noted a modern plant fleet, but no electric excavators. Why is that?

“We tried to look at a long-term answer to sustainability, rather than just rush out to buy electric excavators,” explains Tony. “We have made a large commitment to minimise environmental damage and lead from the front by introducing new technologies that reduce costs for our customers while providing a better customer experience. We only feature the latest and most energy-efficient Tier5 Final engines in our plant fleet, and for instance, within our site accommodation

fleet, it includes the introduction of innovations such as solar panels, modular designs, moveable walls, galvanised roofs, thermostatic heaters and much more.”

“These reduce levels of maintenance required and continually drive the quality of our fleet forward. We already have HVO and biofuel compliant generators rolled out, and intelligent systems to monitor fuel use across the fleet, which also provides easy customer reporting,” says Tony.

Chippindale Plant - Profile

Chippindale diggers range from 880kg to 15 tonnes. ‘‘ Chippindale sees much growth potential in its attachments business.

“Other initiatives include our new telematics system, allowing us to plan routes and track where our vehicles are going. We don’t send our drivers out in heavy traffic, and we aim to reduce our mileage and our carbon footprint, overall. We have also looked at waste management, which has a massive environmental impact. So proper disposal of waste oils, batteries and packaging through recognised, licensed sources is a priority here. But it’s a fast-moving space, and we’ve got a keen eye on any new technologies.”

Aside from environmental responsibilities and a growing cabin fleet, how else is the business developing at the moment?

Chippindale haulage looks great on the road.

“It’s going really well, we’ll be bringing our sales division fully online next year with our new e-commerce shop for gardening tools and equipment, and we'll also be adding a ‘new plant sales’ section to our website. Aside from this, we believe there is real growth potential for our Attachments hire division, which we're giving a big push on and is now available nationwide” says Dan.

We have a continual

investment and growth plan that enables us to

expand and improve our offering year-on-year

Finally, what are your plans for the next five- ten years or so?

’’

“We’ll continue to focus on being the perfect partner for small to medium-sized construction companies, and we’ll be building up the online side of the business. We enjoyed strong trading coming out of the pandemic, and we want to build on that. New equipment is starting to arrive in larger numbers, so we will strengthen our sales team and get them back out on the road and do what we do best,” says Dan.

“The future is very promising. AER Rents are of a like mind to us - we’re ambitious, we’re forward-thinking, and Chippindale Plant has a very bright and very big few years ahead,” continues Tony.

I look forward to seeing it. Right now, the Chippindale headquarters was busy throughout our meeting, well stocked with machinery and tools from some of the most reputable brands in the industry. In a period of change, perhaps, but plainly not standing still. Watch this space for further developments, as there are sure to be plenty of those. n
