business, then sales and contract lifting. We regularly replenish our sales stock and ex-hire equipment is sold as used overseas. So we have a more fluid method of bringing on new kit and replenishing our stock. It’s constantly moving and quite a sustainable way of doing things.”
Moving on, and I was interested by the size and scale of the GGR ‘pocket’ guide. We have demonstrated that it does actually fit in a standard jeans pocket but it’s still a sizeable directory. Is there perhaps too much choice for customers?
“The pocket guide demonstrates where GGR is positioned in the market. We are known as the company that can get things done, and we have the biggest fleet, we cater to the extremes, as well as on the standard products and we have great availability – if you can see it in the guide we will have it in stock.
"New products are added to the range all the time. We don’t just find products and bring them to market, we also develop and introduce training to allow it to be used safely."
GGR does indeed reserve a portion of its Haddenham and Oldham depots for training purposes, with several classrooms, on-site practical facilities Tell me more?
“As well as providing training and accreditation, we spoke to the various associations about the training they need,” explains Dan. “We were instrumental in bringing in the RTITB vacuum lifter course and we have just developed a suite of accredited e-learning modules for floor cranes and electric hoists.
“The e-learning is a recent addition to our training, but the feedback has been positive and more courses are being developed as we speak. E-learning has had a soft launch for now, but this is something we're going to push really going to push in the New Year.”
GGR has some quite specialised equipment, as you point out, but does this mean that equipment is hired rather than sold?
“Hire is by far the biggest part of our GGR Group keeps a large number of products in stock at its Haddenham HQ.
“The Sky Robot 1500 is the latest addition to the range. It’s a remote-controlled lithium battery-powered boom lift that can lift 1500kg and has a working height of over 26 metres. We’re at the stage where it is being introduced and we’re getting some feedback. We have glass vacuum lifters up to to six tonnes, we're known for keeping exceptional pieces of kit ready to use and in stock.”
A quick question about business. How’s it been lately and have you noticed a difference in trading pre and post pandemic?
“During the pandemic, the construction trades and utilities didn’t stop and we were there to support them – a lot of our equipment was already well suited to social distancing. Post-COVID, we have continued to trade very positively.”
we maximise our utilisation and source products responsibly. Most of our products have an extended life-span anyway – you only need to look at the used market to see that – This year we have had a big push on formalising our approach to sustainability and doing more to understand our responsibilities.”
Which is where we leave it. GGR Group, meanwhile, goes about its business quietly and confidently – innovating and pushing a sustainability agenda longer than most, not feeling the need to brag about it, providing training opportunities where none existed, having an impressive reach, range and scale, and a guide book that truly tests the extent of pocket portability. Fair play to them for all of that, and be sure to catch them on a larger stand at next year’s Show. n
As well as pushing the boundaries of battery technology, the new Faresin 17 metre telehandler is a significant addition to the GGR portfolio. When can we see it in the UK?
“Obviously, it was on display at Bauma, but the UK launch will take place at the Executive Hire Show next year. That’s what we use the show for, launching the latest innovations – this year we launched three tonne tracked carriers.”
GGR is rightly known for its range of specialist lifting equipment, of course. What is the latest there?

Your kit was ahead of the curve on battery tech and it is built to last. Do you have a formal sustainability plan?

“We’re part of the Supply Chain Sustainability School, although sustainability runs deep in the company – it’s not just about the environmental factors, but also wellness and wellbeing, employment policies and so on – I’ve never learned as much as I have this year. There’s a lot of work being elsewhere in the business on ensuring that
