Yanmar shows off battery digger A rare outing for Yanmar’s new SV17e electric excavator at the big Munich bash.
The new machine is squarely aimed at European clients, although it isn’t clear
why. Otherwise, the SV17e fits within the sub-two tonne category, its 48v batteries delivering 23.5kWh gross electric power (19kWh usable) – sufficient to drive the machinery for 4.5 hours on a full charge. Highest level operator comforts, optional 400v fast charging (230v standard)
and a bespoke LCD interface are some of the other benefits of this highly anticipated unit.
Hit the skids Komatsu brought the Bauma crowds to an awed standstill when demonstrating
some of their larger machinery. Somewhat smaller in scale, the company also used the Munich event to unveil the new ‘dash 8’ series of skid-steer loaders. Comprising the SK715-8, SK815-8
and SK820-8, all new machines benefit from a Stage V engine, a long-life DPF (6000 hours), 3% more power, 7% more engine torque, 9% increased operating load and up to 8% stronger drawbar pull. Two speeds, a more comfortable seat, a tiltable cab and a new 3.5” LCD monitor round out a highly attractive package. Komatsu also used its Bauma
showcase to show off the PC20R-5 and PC17R micro excavators, as well as a concept for a 3635kg all-electric remote controlled digger. More news about that soon, we hope.
The wurst-kept secret Tufftruk have been slyly showing off their brand new,
EB800 minidumper since Hillhead, where your author was first allowed to drive it and then sworn to absolute secrecy. The cat was once again out of the bag at the
Bauma expo in Munich recently, where Tufftruk MD and inventor-in-chief Ron Blackhurst was piloting the capable unit around Tufftruk’s surprisingly capacious stand. Good job on that, by the way. There’s not a lot else to know about the new
machine at the moment – it is battery-powered and able to tote up to 800kg, just as the name suggests. Oh yes, and it will be getting its Official UK launch at the 2023 Executive Hire Show. See Tufftruk and the EB800 on stand F32 in the main hall, hopefully with a full hands-on review to follow.
