HSC is updating its environmental policy, with reference to legislation, customer and market demand, and in respect of its responsibilities as a sustainable supplier. Group Marketing Manager John McGhee reports.


W


ith regards to updating our policy, we are working closely with a specialist


company in this field to not only help prepare our policy, but, once approved, will then be audited three months from inception. Again, three months later, a progress report will follow with their findings, including recommendations for any improvements allowing HSC to plan even further for the future of our carbon footprint.


Global Warming Potential Prior to the new written policy, HSC has already taken a proactive stance with regards to all products containing refrigerant gases, ensuring that they either met or exceeded any legislation. The products mainly involved are dehumidifiers and air conditioners, which due to HSC’s educational marketing campaign has seen a significant increase in the sales of these products.


Battery Powered Products At HSC our petrol-powered products are eclipsed by our electric powered ranges. The demand from customers for change to battery powered products has a steady increase and anything the market has dictated requires to be battery powered, HSC has had the foresight to already include in our portfolio, such as the Elite LED Delta family of portable site lights alongside the Omega range. Always keen to investigate new opportunities currently we are trailing battery powered pallet trucks, which looks promising, and only recently the new VonArx FR200

When asked what I do, I explained I am currently writing this article about sustainability, and they immediately directed me to their website and their sustainability policy. It shows that environmental responsibilities are a concern for us all, regardless of the industry we are in. n
