modular & off-site construction

eco-bunkboxes

A new concept has been developed to provide fun and flexible on-site bunkbox accommodation for young people on residential camps.

separate adult bunk room incorporated for teachers and leaders. The design incorporates lots of natural light and the accommodation also offers LED lighting throughout, electric heating, bedside lighting and a seating area. Shower and W/C facilities are also fitted as standard. Built to last, the structures are hard-

wearing and robust and have high-quality specifications, says Lucy McKay, business development manager at eco-classrooms. “It really is a superior quality building

NORWICH City FC's official charity partner, the Community Sports Foundation, helps more than 38,000 people every year to achieve their goals through sport. The charity supports some of the most disadvantaged, disabled and talented people across Norfolk through a range of football and sport related programmes and services. The Foundation needed a new year-

round solution to accommodate the young people participating in its residential sporting camps on site. It had struggled to offer quality on-site accommodation for the youngsters. It approached eco-classrooms, which

provides eco-friendly timber framed modular buildings to the education and healthcare sector. The company designs and builds structures that are architecturally and individually designed to meet their clients’ needs. The brief for eco-classrooms was to

create something that was light and airy, that provided warmth and comfort all year round and also offered a sense of fun and excitement. Eco-classrooms’ solution was to develop

the new eco-bunkbox concept, a fun and flexible group accommodation for young people. Ideal for sports and outdoor recreational trips and holidays, and easily adaptable to cater for the family or luxury glamping market, the eco-bunkbox is timber clad to blend sympathetically with rural outdoor landscapes. Measuring some 54sq m, the standard design sleeps up to 14 people with a

with high quality specifications and built to meet permanent building regulations. It delivers a constant temperature and enjoyable space compared to standard temporary buildings or older mobiles that may not even meet temporary building regulations – which are often freezing cold in winter and boiling hot in the summer”. The structures can be built entirely off-

site and installed in a matter of days. They can also be moved around a site to meet a client’s changing need. “We’ve designed these lodgings to be

highly transportable, so we can quickly install them across the country. It’s a very flexible and quick to build solution, and a superb way to offer year-round fun and funky accommodation for children and young people,” says McKay. Youngsters love gadgets so the team

fitted USB Ports on each bunk. The bunks also have individual storage to store sports kit and other belongings. “The beauty is that we can easily adapt

the interior layouts to suit each customer’s needs. It’s an adaptable option that morphs well to create a luxury lodges or family room layout kitchenette area for example,” says McKay. “This is a great flexible group space.

Children can really embrace the joys of nature’s outdoor classroom without having to return to a squelchy tent or damp caravan at the end of a rainy cold day. Instead there’s a comfy warm bed waiting for them.”
