Organic textures for laid-back LA-inspired interior
SITUATED in Covent Garden, Avobar is London’s first dedicated avocado bar. The brief for DesignLSM involved creating a space that is both eclectic and ‘insta-worthy’. Adorned with fresh produce and
framed by botanical backdrops, the restaurant embraces the beauty of nature with a contemporary design aesthetic. Taking inspiration from the laid-back Californian lifestyle, the design features a relaxed, neutral colour palette with distressed white timbers, a range of woven textiles and statement wood flooring from Havwoods. DesignLSM chose the Henley collection
from Havwoods and applied four different boards from the range in a random pattern that celebrates the unique character of natural wood. Manufactured for the hospitality market,
the Henley collection is a range of pre- finished engineered wood planks with an oiled and lacquered surface, suitable for high footfall installations or heavy-duty use. The textured surface also ensures any superficial scratches and marks are naturally disguised without distracting from the floor’s original aesthetic. Havwoods also provided distressed
wood cladding for the Avobar project, with reclaimed wood surfaces that complement the natural palette found throughout the interior.

Complex flooring calls for bespoke concrete solution
A COMPLEX flooring concrete specification was required for the Lake District’s Windermere Jetty, which was commissioned by North West’s arts and heritage association, Lakeland Arts, on the site of the original Windermere Steamboat Museum. The museum houses a collection of over
50 vessels of historic boats telling the story of boating on Windermere from 1780 to the present day. The brief demanded a consistently dust
free and durable surface flooring finish with no cracks to the museum’s extensive exhibition halls. Aggregate Industries oversaw the entire flooring specification. A
traditional dry shake topping would have been difficult to install over the museum’s underfloor heating solution, so a bespoke combination of internal Diamondcrete slabs was used throughout. Constructed from controlled binders and
admixtures in conjunction with aggregates, it provides a robust concrete flooring solution able to withstand the harsh weather conditions associated with the area, along with high frequency and use expected of the museum. Approximately 150m3
of Diamondcrete
was supplied and installed on the project.

Multiple designs for maritime-inspired flooring
THE Flower Bowl, the new mixed leisure destination at Barton Grange, Preston, offers a cinema, curling rink, ten pin bowling alley, crazy golf and several new restaurants, including The Ocean Fish and Chips Restaurant. Designed by Nigel Phillips Design, the
restaurant has a maritime inspired décor. Six designs from the Palettone PUR range were selected to create the bespoke floor in the dining area of the restaurant. Caramel Kick, Buttered Corn and Hay Grain combine to create a sand effect, while the blues of Weekend Sky, Superior Sky and Sapphire Star were used in a waved pattern to create the sea. Phillips worked with Polyflor’s in
house design service to build the custom floor design.
