Elevate 2019
Creating and transforming leisure activity spaces is high on the agenda at the UK's largest trade event dedicated to physical activity.
WITH more than 300 speakers at this year’s Elevate, 8-9 May at ExCeL London, there are a number of dedicated seminar sessions focusing on how to create and transform leisure spaces to encourage participation. A free pass to the event gives full access to the impressive line-up of speakers as well as a chance to network in the - bigger than ever - exhibition featuring suppliers such as TVS, Gerflor, SIG/CMS, Geometrik Flooring Solutions, Ecore, Codelocks and Nortech. In an increasingly competitive market,
gym design must stand out and provide a destination and unique tailored experiences from arrival, to work out to departure – the design must reinforce the product and brand, by creating an environment that encourages social encounters. Phil Waind from Waind Gohil + Potter Architects and Jason De Savary, chief executive of CoreCollective will look at how to create spaces that customers want; whilst Matt Adey, customer experience director, Les Mills UK and Charlie Banfield, national commercial manager - Group Exercise & Swim, Nuffield Health will focus on the role of virtual technology on site. There will also be case study
presentations by Willmott Dixon and Exeter City Council looking at innovative approaches to big builds including Exeter’s new £26m leisure complex - the UK’s first leisure centre built to super-efficient low energy Passivhaus standards delivering a saving of at least 70 per cent in energy consumption. With the launch of Elevate Kids in 2019
there will also be a dedicated exhibition area for suppliers offering equipment for schools and play centres, supported by BALPPA, API and the Sports & Physical Education (PE) Association UK. Chris Sharman, managing director of iKidz Training and Consultancy will chair a session on creating services and spaces for active kids (and families) with speakers Susie Malcolm, group family manager of David Lloyd Clubs and John Penny, managing director of Third Space. Other pioneering approaches to leisure
services will be discussed such as Sheffield’s integration of health and fitness services within the community and how to revive the high street with opinions from Glenn Carlin, operations manager for the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine, Dr Ollie Hart GP, Steve Mann, head of healthy communities for Places for
