The Big Interview

As seen with the R903X, it’s true that these products come with a higher price tag, but not by much. Take a recycled hat for example. It will cost approximately 15p more compared to a hat made from non-recycled material.“We’re hoping it’s an easy choice for people. That they say ‘oh 15p more for a recycled hat, I’ll can go for that’. Our aim from the very beginning was to create a range of recycled products that was affordable and I believe we have achieved that,” he adds. David explains that it’s a simple case of supply meeting demand for getting the cost of recycled yarn down to the same price as standard yarn. The more volume of recycled yarn that gets used during the manufacturing process, the cheaper the products will become. David hopes there will be some parity in the price in the very near future. Linking into this is the choice of colour in the range at the moment. Rather than introduce to the market a range with dozens of colours, Result Clothing has taken a sensible route and introduced styles in black and navy, along with four safety products in high-vis colours which have been added to the Safe-Guard range. The only product which has been introduced in a multitude of colours is the Recycled Black Compass Beanie (RC930X), where the cuff is available in six different colours to complement the current Compass range, also partly made from recycled materials. This is to encourage customers to mix and match through the whole range.

Increase in popularity

As Genuine Recycled gains in popularity, the plan is to expand choice in the range in the coming years with more colours and more garments.“Once we see requests and feedback come in from the end-users and our distributors for an increase in colours or product choice, we will feel that we have succeeded in our endeavours to use up so much of the plastic waste that is circulating around the globe at the moment. We’ve all got to do our bit to act responsibly and it’s down to Result and other brands to make these products available,” says David.

David is fully anticipating this range to become commonplace among Result’s customers, and for the products to replace existing SKUs in Result’s current collection as more and more companies look to provide sustainable and recycled options for their staff. “Years ago, you wore a recycled product simply because you were saving the planet and for no other reason, but the product would not have been very good quality and would have been expensive. Now that aspect has completely gone and you can now choose to wear a reasonably priced, high quality, recycled product. The new way of recycling is just a different world of both quality and prevention,” says David.

Hearts and minds All Result’s main distributors are on board to stock the new product range, which will be available from January 2021. The next step for Result Clothing is to win the hearts and minds of the end-users. To help achieve this, sales teams will be armed with an arsenal of knowledge, ready to answer any question that may come their way about the new range. David is also encouraging sales teams to send out product samples in advance of virtual meetings so decorators can see and feel the range for themselves. And the headline product he recommends to showcase the range at its finest is the aforementioned R903X Recycled Fleece Polarthermic Jacket. “This fleece will tell the story of the entire range. We will win hearts and minds immediately with this product,” he adds. To also aid buyer confidence, Result has ensured that the whole supply chain is traceable, with Result able to prove the origin of each individual garment. “It’s a true open book policy,” he says.

With more than 50 years of garment design and development under his belt, David is happy that at this stage in his career he is able to contribute to reducing the vast mountain of PET waste currently being sent to landfill. Result Clothing is doing its bit to save the world, isn’t it about time you did too?
