The Promo Column
Don’t leave it too late T
he countdown to Christmas is well and truly underway, and this year it has a bit more piquancy than usual. Last year was a rather muted affair for reasons most of us understand and accept. Social gatherings of colleagues and even family were curtailed, and with many working from home, the standard markers of the season were perhaps considered slightly less important.
So, there were fewer festive gifts, shows of appreciation, and simple good wishes than we’re used to, as people concentrated on other matters.
Good reasons
This year may be slightly different as we look to re-establish traditions that we have for good reasons. Christmas giving and giving thanks isn’t simply altruistic. It makes good business sense to cement relationships and let clients, colleagues and customers know that you appreciate them and are looking forward to doing more business in future.
So, it’s time to start looking at those promotional merchandise catalogues and websites for ideas.
Time is the other thing to bear in mind.
It will not have escaped the mind of anyone in a line of business that moves goods from A to B that it is taking longer than ever at the moment due to a shortage of truck drivers, hold ups at ports linked to new customs requirements, and a shortage of goods at suppliers who are still catching up from COVID related disruption to business. You really can’t afford to be a last minute shopper this year. It’s the thought that counts, but not if you thought that you could do it all a week before Christmas. That just makes you disorganised. On the issue of truck shortages, what better way to keep lorry drivers onside than with this fantastic chocolate lorry from Slodkie? As fans of chunky chocolate bar Yorkie will know, there’s nothing a HGV driver like more than a

Well, maybe a £5,000 signing on loyalty bonus, but if the budget is a bit constrained you can always appeal to their sweet tooth. The bars come in milk, dark or white chocolate, moulded into an articulated lorry shape. You can personalise the bar or the packaging – what’s not like? Another Christmas item comes from our good friends at Sow Easy who have produced an eco-friendly alternative to traditional corporate Christmas cards for clients in the shape of Christmas Tree seedstick shapes.
The packs contain seeded matchsticks embedded with a Christmas Tree seed (Picea Abies), which can be grown into a real Christmas tree – a Norway spruce. Sow Easy says they are ideal for any business looking to spread Christmas cheer with a seasonal promotion with a difference. They can be used for promotions aimed at schools, families, gardeners and retail customers. When folded the packs are 92x105mm and can be printed both sides in full colour.
Halloween
In case we are slightly getting ahead of ourselves, don’t forget that Halloween is now one of the year’s biggest dates for marketing and staff events and slots neatly into that pre-Christmas period. Stress toy specialist, Stress Planet says that it can supply squishy scary stress items such as squashy pumpkins, skulls, witches and spiders. Don’t have nightmares.
Other options could include novelty trick or treat sweets, spooky glow sticks, and masks. Not the PPE variety for once, but the sort designed to make you look scary.

Get back to work
As we’re encouraged to get back to work, there comes the added invitation to do a bit more to combat the climate emergency and get on our bikes.
