Oeko-Tex releases new annual report T
he new annual report by Oeko-Tex outlines what the body is doing to support the industry in moving towards greater sustainability as we head out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Georg Dieners, secretary general, said: “The past year has turned our industry and world upside down. The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting supply chain challenges have made us all painfully aware of how globally interdependent we are. However, Oeko-Tex sees great opportunities in these disruptive times. The rapid progress of digitalisation and the increasing international focus on sustainability are having positive infl uences on society and the economy.

HP and Perfect Colours lead the eco revolution with new Recycled Satin Canvas
P is at the forefront of the effort to reduce the millions of tons of plastic entering oceans each year and so this has led to the creation of a new product in the form of HP Recycled Satin Canvas, a printable canvas made from 100% recycled water bottles retrieved from the ocean during organised clean-ups.
Crucially, HP Recycled Satin Canvas is entirely compliant with the REACH European Commission standard for the protection of human health and the environment, making it eligible for return through the HP Large-Format Media take-back programme. It offers a more eco-conscious media solution for printers around the world and, for customers in the UK, approved HP reseller Perfect Colours has recently set up a new website dedicated to the product.
Jason Burroughs, managing director of Perfect Colours, said: “We are passionate about our environment and want to ensure products such as these, no matter who creates them, are marketed to help promote a better tomorrow.
“Rarely does such a truly ground- breaking product come along. This new media, made from raw materials reclaimed from the ocean, is certainly in line with our environmental goals as

a business. The product is unique. As such, we’ve created a bespoke website to give our customers the opportunity to learn more about it – and purchase it – online.”
HP Recycled Satin Canvas is lower priced than most like-for-like media, offering printers cost savings in addition to environmental benefi ts. Also, while the new canvas does not feature any coatings, which can often be costly and potentially harmful to the environment, it does have a professional textured satin fi nish for extremely high print quality.
A durable media that resists edge cracking when stretched, the canvas produces outstanding image quality and precise colours on a bright white, slightly textured, satin-fi nish canvas, and is suitable for print applications such as photo enlargements, reproductions and retail, corporate and hospitality décor.
Despite the global challenges, Oeko-Tex can report a successful year. In particular, our MADE IN GREEN by Oeko-Tex label experienced strong growth once again.” The number of Made in Green labels increased by 108% during 2020/21, while a total of 31,696 certifi cates and labels were introduced during the same period. This fi gure was up 31% on the previous year. Mr Dieners added that the Oeko-Tex mission has remained unchanged: to make the international textile and leather industry more sustainable, trustworthy and safe.

USB2U invests in the future
SB2U has invested in two new full colour, digital printers to add to its state-of-the-art production facility in
Northampton.
With the demand for branded USB sticks increasing in recent months, USB2U is ready to fulfi l requirements for branded merchandise giveaways at corporate events as the sector recovers.
The new printers not only increase USB2U’s production capacity, they also offer unparalleled photo-quality prints with a high quality fi nish and vibrancy. Using the latest in print technology, USB2U’s extensive range of USB sticks and tech gifts can be printed with a company logo, slogan or picture. Sebastian La Porta, managing director, said: “After a diffi cult 18 months for the industry, we are seeing business confi dence slowly increasing. However, this is set against the global transport delays which is unlikely to improve for the foreseeable future. “This major investment ensures we have the capacity to deal with this increase in demand and ensure that we have full control of the supply chain. The ‘think globally, act locally’ mantra has never been so relevant.”
