Roland DG aids with makeover of treatment rooms at local children’s hospital
R
oland DG has printed and applied vivid printed artwork for use within three treatment rooms and the waiting area of the Neurophysiology Department at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children.
Located near Roland DG’s UK head office lies Bristol’s leading paediatric hospital, Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, and the only paediatric major trauma centre in South West England. The work was done using the TrueVIS AP-640 – the company’s first ever water-based resin/ latex printer. The printer is suitable for indoor applications in sensitive environments such as hospitals and schools. The TrueVIS resin inks are GREENGUARD Gold certified, meaning they meet strict standards of low chemical emissions.

It is widely understood that the children and their families spend 80 to 90% of their time indoors where pollutant levels are often much higher than those found outside, and this time is heightened for those spending time in hospital. ollowing a rebrand in December 2023, Origin Sign Co. has continued to develop and grow with investment in new cutting equipment from Graphtec GB. Working closely with Graphtec GB, Origin Sign Co. purchased a Graphtec FC9000-160 cutting plotter and a WidLaser C1000 laser cutting system.
James Watterson, production manager, said: “The WidLaser is a fantastic machine!
“Since the day it was installed, it has been so reliable and consistent. The quality, detail and intricacy of the output it delivers are amongst the best we have ever seen. I have loved getting to know this machine and creating some fantastic signage with it.”
The WidLaser C1000 is equipped with high-end Glass CO2 laser tubes capable of cutting, engraving and marking onto a wide range of rigid and malleable materials. It is quiet and incredibly precise and allows users to cut and engrave onto materials that traditional cutting

The artwork, created by Grand Appeal designer Emily Twomey, channels a beautiful underwater theme, with vibrant colours and phrases that aim to tackle worry, offering escapism for patients. Anna Shepherd, deputy director for The Grand Appeal, Bristol Royal Hospital for Children’s official charity said: “At The Grand Appeal, we are dedicated to saving the lives of sick children and supporting their families through difficult times. When Roland DG approached us with the offer to makeover spaces in our hospital, we couldn’t have said ‘yes’ faster! Bringing colour and light into the lives of unwell children will make such a difference in what can be dark times. We are thrilled with the results and have already seen a positive impact amongst patients.”
