Hello and welcome to the Summer 2022 edition of Park World magazine. Hang on, that’s Summer Part One. It gets confusing if you think about it too much. This issue our big stories are about the new
Guardians of the Galaxy ride at EPCOT as previewed by our own excellent North America editor Susan Storey – you can find that starting on page 34 – and a look at some of the key companies and products in the family ride sector, starting page 24. My esteemed colleague Charlotte Westwood – the
new editor of Park World – also spoke with Severn Lamb about their sustainable travel options for parks, learning about some of their exciting recent projects. The big story for me though was taking my kids for their first park experience. Now, you might say I have been remiss in waiting until my oldest was nine, but in my defence taking a profoundly disabled child out for a day anywhere can be a truly epic undertaking. We went to our local attraction – West Midlands Safari Park – with some trepidation, but also really wanting to see if somewhere could hit the spot for a four-year-old, a seven-year-old, and said oldest. They didn’t disappoint at all, the kids had the time of their lives (all of them going on multiple coasters more than once!), and I think we may have accidentally minted a generation of new park lovers that day. A big thank you to WMSP and their staff too – it was great to observe a place both in an operational sense on a busy day, and with three kids seeing such a place for the first time. In short, it was a great experience for all of us. And before anyone asks yes, those are really my kids in the pictures*. I know, I find it hard to believe we’re related sometimes too! Jon
*That’s me with the teeth. The green one.

THIS MONTH’S COVER SHOT:
Leading real estate development firm Qetaifan Projects wanted visitors to Qetaifan Island North waterpark, Qatar, to experience a journey on trains uniquely themed to resemble 1950s oil tankers and trailers. Severn Lamb created a rustic, era- appropriate design featuring weathered patina, working with the client at each stage of the project to ensure an end result that exceeded expectations.
