concept to reality with ease - and when it comes to client requests and requirements, sustainability has been climbing the priority ladder. An example is Severn Lamb’s recent project


involving the design and manufacture of two Battery Electric Ultra-Light Rail trains, which came into service at Southend Pier in Southend-on-Sea, Essex this spring. Severn Lamb had also developed Southend Pier’s


previous diesel trains, and while these provided an excellent service for the 36 years since they were first opened by Princess Anne in 1986, Southend- on-Sea City Council required a more sustainable transport solution for the pier.


Next stop: carbon neutral A public tender was issued for the design and manufacture of two eco-friendly trains - clean transportation which would help Southend-on-Sea City Council to achieve its goal of becoming carbon neutral. Severn Lamb was awarded the contract for the new trains, which feature a clean, sustainable drive system, modern styling and state-of-the-art passenger experience technologies. Following initial submission of the concept to


the client, this concept was then refined multiple times in a collaborative process for which Severn Lamb is renowned in the industry. This is a business that makes a point of working closely with its clients to achieve their end goals. Clients won’t
