Benoit Cornet

Park World’s Matt Broughton speaks to BoldMove Nation’s CEO, Benoit Cornet, about his industry life, a CEO’s working week, and all there is to look forward to in the company’s future.

Matt: Benoit, can you tell us a little about your industry background before BoldMove Nation? Benoit: I’ve been in the entertainment and leisure industry for over 25 years. In 2000, I founded Alterface, where my goal was to enhance the visitor experience through technology. The company quickly grew into a major industry player, pioneering attractions such as the world’s first interactive theatre, the interactive rotating theatre, and the non-linear Erratic Ride. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of leading several groundbreaking projects. One of the most recognized is Popcorn Revenge at Walibi Belgium, which features the award- winning Erratic Ride system and set new standards for immersive, interactive storytelling. Another milestone was Maus au Chocolat at Phantasialand, Germany, a dark ride that remains a benchmark for interactive media attractions. While being a great, and sometimes very difficult experience, time came for me to broaden my horizons beyond the "aim and shoot” aspect and to put my teeth in some more experience defining innovations.

Matt: How did you come to be CEO at BoldMove Nation? Benoit: Together with Anja D’Hondt, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at BoldMove Nation, we founded the company in 2021, right in the midst of the Covid pandemic. It was a challenging time for our industry, but we saw it as the perfect moment to start a new adventure, one focused on creativity, innovation, and excellence.

Matt: What are you mostly responsible for in your working week? Benoit: As CEO, I lead the team and steer our creative and strategic direction. I really focus on the vision, thinking about the future of the product and the unmet demand on the market. Then I bring to each project the experience and

lessons I’ve gathered over the years, ensuring that every concept, design, and attraction reflects the best of what we’ve learned about engaging and delighting visitors.

Matt: For anyone unfamiliar with the company, how would you describe what BoldMove Nation does? Benoit: BoldMove Nation creates happy worlds with experience design and engineering for themed family rides and attractions. Our core products include the Smash & Reload interactive dark ride, the Spinfinity Coaster and our new Rogue Rides trackless ride system. We also design and produce fully customized dark rides and complete theming concepts for family attractions worldwide. We are a highly agile organisation with a significant network of established partners, so we can really do things that would not be do-able for any other company.

Matt: Is there a single project you’ve produced that you think is the perfect example of what BoldMove Nation does best? Benoit: Our upcoming project in Hunderfossen, Norway, is a perfect example of how we bring together multiple elements to create an exceptional attraction. Within a relatively compact space, we’re designing a highly immersive dark ride that blends cutting-edge technologies with rich media, audiovisual effects, and state-of-the-art theming with our Rogue Rides vehicles. Every element is carefully
