I was sad many years ago when they discontinued their factory tour and put in a theme park-style ride that simulates the factory tour. There was nothing quite like the old real tour when you stood in front of a big mixer of chocolate and smelled that aroma. Not to be outdone, of course, is the Mars company, which has many killer category store attractions in its portfolio. Another example in this category is cheese. Henri Willing cheese company in the Amsterdam area, which is one of the famous producers of Gouda cheese, is what the region is known for. It has several locations scattered around Amsterdam and nearby environs.
3. Material Goods/Merchandise - This category has the highest growth potential. Partially fuelled by online merchandising competition, manufacturers must develop their products into entertainment attractions. The granddaddy in this category is Lego. Not only have they developed the product into full-scale theme parks, but they also have a variety of other
smaller entertainment-oriented venues and even a television show.
Getting into the act big time is the Hasbro Corporation, in partnership with Brite Management and designed by Kingsman. Hasbro has additional attractions based on their products in the American Dream Mall in New Jersey and also in the UK (Brite Management is not associated with any projects in the UK). Brite is now forging forward with two new attractions in the United States and in northern New Jersey. The new ones are NERF and Playskool- themed. activities that are based and adopted from more traditional activity-oriented facilities that are found in places ranging from museums to theme parks all over the world.
Charles Juczack, the first general manager of the already-opened Planet Playskool facility and the soon-to-be-opened adjacent NERF-based facility found the entire process quite educational and challenging. As the facilities are built, there will be a lot of tweaking needed. I enjoyed learning about the developmental processes of these types of facilities. one of the graduates of our academic program at Montclair State University and the most seasoned and diverse attraction management person. After visiting the facility, I can only recommend that developers of these types of facilities look carefully at age abilities and dynamics of activity and utilize people with more diverse insight into the dynamics of human activity as it applies to leisure, recreation, and entertainment.
