Farm attractions – moving to the countryside The development of “farm attractions” is accelerating in the countryside surrounding major metro cities in Asia. Urban families are looking for activities and experiences nearby where they can drive to and spend the day. Rural communities are welcoming these projects as a way to maintain and grow farming income through rural tourism. One example is Ali the Fox Eco Farm and Activity Park which opened in October in Ningbo. They are still actively expanding through cooperation with developers and theme park operators. Connecting with nature in regional cities (during weekend retreats)” will become even more attractive for Chinese tourists.

Challenges ahead For 2020, there will be very significant challenges to the theme park industry in Asia. We can expect large declines in visitation and revenues at regional parks as a result of closures and decreased travel. The extent of the decline is not yet known although most parks are preparing to re-open in June and July. While 2020 will be a challenging

year, the mid to long term future is bright for the entertainment industry in Asia. Rising middle class, increased mobility and a general appreciation for family fun will continue to drive the market. Innovations are occurring in smaller indoor attractions and suburban and rural areas giving a diverse range of opportunities for developers, operators and equipment manufactures.
