MARKET REPORT: LATIN AMERICA La Feria, Mexico

180 metres in length; Delta Mission, of the Tiuma Park Theme Park, in the Eastern Plains, and the Papiones of the Ukumari Biopark, in Pereira, among many others. Overall, investments exceeded USD$ 40 million.

One of the reasons for the sector

Another case to mention is that of the Hopi Hari Park that went through a serious crisis in 2012. In 2019, with a new administration, it received around 730 thousand people throughout the year, which meant an increase of 32% over the year 2018.

Hopi Hari was on the way to a

remarkable recovery, considering that in 2019 he received close to USD$ 14 million against USD$ 10 million in 2018. The park had been completely

revitalised and had more than 40 attractions, spread over 760 thousand square metres. One of the few parks that managed to

open new attractions in 2020 was Magic City, which is located in Suzano, in the state of Sao Paulo. It is a water park, which on 17 February inaugurated a new slide, called Maverik, considered one of the most radical in the region. Maverik is 18 metres high, which

corresponds to a building of approximately six floors, the acquisition of which represented an investment of USD$ 800,000. The year 2019 was positive for Magic

City, when it closed with a 13.42% increase in the number of visitors, compared to 2018. As I write this, it is, like the others, waiting for the zero hour to restart activities.

18 PARK WORLD Handbook & Buyer’s Guide 2020

Colombia For parks in Colombia, the year 2020 was very optimistic. In 2017 they had difficult moments that were improving until 2019, when they were in full recovery, characterised by significant investments. Last year, several companies opened

new attractions, as in the case of Mundo Aventura in Bogotá, which opened the Tutankhamun museum and Air Race, considered the most extreme flight simulator in the country, which reaches the speeds of a combat aircraft. Other parks that made notable investments were: Piscilago, which was inaugurated by Anaconda, a group slide of more than

initiatives to increase was the exemption of tariffs that the Colombian government authorized for the import of equipment that is not produced in the country. The executive director of the Colombian Association of Attractions and Amusement Parks (Acolap), Angela Diaz, reported that the previous year the income of the parks, including all categories (thematic, zoological, bioparks, aquariums, aquatics and family entertainment centres) exceeded USD$ 230 million and 16 million visitors. Mundo Aventura Park, the Coffee Park, Piscilago and Salitre Mágico stood out both in sales and in visitors. Currently, all the parks have been

closed for three months and are facing many difficulties that put more than 15,000 direct workers at risk, of which 40% are young people between 18 and 25 who find their first job opportunity in the industry. Now, in Colombia there are around 400 amusement and amusement establishments, including 110 family entertainment centres that operate in shopping malls. The pandemic keeps entrepreneurs very concerned, despite some government
