Park Profile

All the fun of the fair!

Carnaval is a cutting-edge amusement park located in Global Village Dubai, a destination for culture, shopping and entertainment.

I

t premiered as part of Global Village Season 22 in November 2017 and with 30 rides in one event, the buzz leading up to opening day was immense: “Whilst

the exact ride line up was under wraps, we started receiving a lot of questions when the 80 metre towers started to appear in the skyline,” says Carnaval director, Neil Dwyer. Park World finds out more…

Tell me about your thrill rides. How did you choose them? Which are the most popular? Part of the uniqueness of Global Village is its reinvention each season and the same theory was put to the table when we started to select our thrill ride experiences; we wanted to make sure alongside the firm favourites there was something new to experience. From the Middle East’s tallest drop tower, to what is currently the highest observation wheel in Dubai, we are keen on providing the best fun times to our guests.

“Shang High” our StarFlyer and “Global Burj” the Freefall

Skyfall Drop Tower from Funtime Group were new rides for the event; similar experiences had operated in previous years and had scored favourably in guest satisfaction surveys, however the new ‘twist’ was the new version of both these tower rides now bigger than ever –at over 80 metres tall they are the tallest rides of their kind in the Middle East, with a free fall experience that reaches 15 metres a second! Global Burj is now a favourite for speed and adrenaline rush seekers. Further, a number of new concepts were evaluated and the Gerstlauer Sky Fly really stood out, offering an attraction

that was previously unseen in the region, a ride experience which puts control of the ride motion in guests’ hands. The ride now operating for its second season as “Fly

France” has remained one of the most popular thrill rides in the Carnaval. Equally, reviewing historical data formed an important

part of the selection process, there were some very clear guest favourites from previous events at Global Village and we felt it was important to reintroduce these experiences, with a new twist for the new event. There was a lot of consideration towards capacity; a Mondial Turbine had operated in a previous event and again had been a firm favourite, however, due to the limited capacity of the ride it has always experienced extended wait times. Mondial was quick to provide a solution however, the 20 seater max version of the Turbine, which is now on offer for Season 23 as the “Honolo-Loop”.

You also have a range of family and kids rides. Again, how did you decide which ones would be right for your visitors? We wanted to make sure the family rides appealed to the whole family and had the suitable height restrictions to allow as many of the family to ride as possible. As part of the review, we identified Zamperla Windstarz. With 24 seats and a low minimum height requirement of 1.05m if accompanied, it made the ride a perfect choice for us. Further, our association with IAAPA has enabled us to

share some of the best practices in the industry and find the best solutions and rides that appeal to all ages through the
