be made: “The current emphasis is on providing a variety of film licensing options; improved image quality; a more experiential in-seat experience; and reduced per-seat costs which make flying theatres a stand-alone financially sensible option.” Mike adds that "one of the biggest
challenges for operators has been the cost, and associated risks, of producing custom flying films. We’ve solved that issue. SimEx-Iwerks and MacGillivray Freeman Films are creating a catalogue of flying films that will be available to rent. Our first films will be released in early 2019,” he says.

Generally we see more and more scenes that are moviving away from the “classic” aerial helicopter shots. They stillll work greatt,, but at the same time it is quiuite l limimititiing what you can do wiitth a helicopter and fiilmlminging permits is usually another big challenge. In our last film about one third of the scenes was live filmed footage, another third was live filmed but heavily augmented wiitth vi visual effects and about one ththird was photorealistic fully computer animated shots. In ththe final film the differences between these scenes are ininvisivisiblble t to heo the view vie er. movement within the film that is alsolso realallyly important for the overeralalll Flying Theatre experperienience.WithMackMedia andMack Animation we can com inombine our experience with l liive shooting and high-end animatio capabilities to produce the whole film in-house. A big chalalllenge in the production of a Flying Theatre movie is that you can realallly only evaluate how wellll i itt is working in an actual Flying Theatre. Usually that happens when he lm is alr ady nearly fininished and at a time when changes are really expensive to make. That is why we have adopted our workiking process from animated films and do a complete previsualisation of the fiilmlm in the form of anof an “Anim“Animatatiic” before we start the actual shooting. We show this “Ahis “Animatic” to our clients in our Flying Theatre with movement, which actually gives them allrready a very close approximation of the finished film’s experience. This enables the clients to give us theieirr input before shooting and they can have much deeper involvement in the creation of the fiilmlm.
