Aquashow Mammoth Blast - ProSlide

convenience afforded to them by their mobiles and quick access to the internet. Consumers want to plan their days ahead of time, make purchases from their phones, and collect loyalty points, just as they would at their favourite retail store of fast-food chain. Furthered by the desire for less touchpoints and ‘frictionless’ experiences—cashless, virtual queuing, and density management will be sought out offerings from parks.

“And just as these consumers expect modern conveniences from the places that they patron, they also expect them to reflect their values. Consumers will continue to seek out businesses that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability.”

Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, 2021 was still an active year for WhiteWater, having commissioned over 50 projects around the world. “We’ve been proud to partner with innovative and creative parks and aquatic designers to create these world-class destinations. The already mentioned Aqua Nick and LEGOLAND water parks highlight the power of IP-theming. Water World Ocean Park and Studio City showcase the ingenuity of working with unique locales. We are excited to see what the rest of 2021 and 2022 bring in terms of big park openings, especially in the Middle East. Already this year, we’ve seen Shankus Water Park in India expand, once again with WhiteWater attractions, and were proud to see a Greek Islands- inspired water park, Jungle Bay, open at the Westin Dubai & Le Méridien Mina Seyahi Beach Resort,” says Dawn.

“We can’t ignore effect that the pandemic has had on the industry,” says Ray Smegal, ProSlide. “With so many projects and expansions delayed since early 2020, we’re seeing a lot of clients say, “now is the time to move forward”. For them, ‘moving forward’ means renovating, expanding, or developing a new project. COVID-19 has reinforced the deep-rooted desire to enjoy entertainment and leisure around the world and so it’s acting as the impetus for operators to pull the trigger on the projects they’ve been waiting on.”

“After a troubling time, there’s definitely cause for a more optimistic outlook,” says Ray. “With an explosion of new developments and expansions ready to happen after pandemic-related delays, among a multitude of new trends and innovations, the future of the water ride industry is looking considerably brighter.” In light of this, ADG has this advice for waterpark owners looking to expand their current offering: “While there will always be that continued desire for the latest and greatest, we always like to biggest that we visit with the owners and walk their park and look at what is really happening. Where are the guests, what attractions are they migrating too, what parts of the park are empty and why? Then think about what your goals are - are you looking to attract guests of a certain demographic, or do you want to increase length of stay? The answer to these may result in a very different direction as to what you should do with a renovation. There are lots of choices out there and having an experienced designed walk a park and address these factors with you helps owners consider all their options to come up with a renovation plan that is right for their specific park.”

Asked which of its recently introduced rides or amenities new and existing waterparks should consider including, ADG says, “It really comes down to what they need: “If they are looking to expand their kid’s options, we have our Mini Harbour pools that include mini-sized waves with kids’ active play options. If they want to build excitement for teens, surfing is a big trend to look at right now. Our new EpicSurf Surf ride is perfect for municipal facilities as it allows you to being the sport of surfing to your town no matter where you are located – real waves and real surfboards. Another option would be looking at renovating an old, underused pool and renovating it add waves for learn-to-surf and boogie boarding, (see our Breaker Beach pool at Water World, CO on page 29).”
