pool and plenty of deck space with shade and access to changing stations, restrooms, etc.”
Another trend that continues to endure is the iconic attraction, says Dawn at WhiteWater: “Water parks the world over all want that big, thrilling ride that becomes synonymous with their venue. At Hurricane Harbor Chicago, Six Flags added Tsunami Surge, a Master Blaster from WhiteWater. Strategically placed near Six Flags Great America’s Maxx Force, North America’s fastest launching roller coaster, Tsunami Surge is the world’s tallest water coaster and welcomes guests to the water park.”
“Furthering on the iconic trend,” continues Dawn, “there is the emergence of the iconic water park with superlative attractions and feats of engineering, especially in regions such as the Middle East and Asia. In Qatar, Qetaifan Island’s Aquatar Water Park is set to open next year featuring an astonishing centrepiece—the Icon Tower, the world’s highest slide tower, from WhiteWater. In Macau, the region’s only water park opened on the rooftop of Studio City’s casino. Making the most of a small footprint, the park features a range of WhiteWater water slides and an AquaPlay 1750. Over in Hong Kong, the state-of-the-art Water World water park recently opened at Ocean Park Hong Kong and covers more than 600,000 square feet and features WhiteWater attractions amongst its environmentally friendly design.”
Renewed hope “With 2021 almost behind us, the future for water parks and resorts appears to be dawning a new day that inspires optimism and renewed hope for 2022,” says ProSlide CCO Ray Smegal. “Parks all over are opening throughout the year, expansion projects readied, and new product innovation continues to lead the way. As our industry moves into the future, new developments and trends are beginning to root themselves in areas like products, designs and guest expectations.” One water ride that continues to define the great parks around the world are water coasters, says Ray. “Over the last several years we’ve witnessed that ProSlide Water Coasters are becoming the most sought-after ride in water parks. There’s been incredible developments in the technology that brings world-leading coaster technology – that you’d see at Universal’s Volcano Bay – being brought down to a cost-effective level that any park can afford. You can trust that an authentic ProSlide Water Coaster will have that amazing design that top brands trust, while still being accessible and something that smaller water parks can add. Look to our state-of-the-art BLAST water propulsion to be featured on eight new ProSlide Water Coasters in 2022.”
The inclusion of competitive racing in water rides is something that ProSlide is also seeing more of nowadays. “Capturing that experience in water rides has been part of ProSlide’s DNA since our founding,” says Ray, “but as innovation continues, we’re noticing more parks are set on increasing that sensation. Dubai’s Atlantis Aquaventure was quick to identify the impact that racing has on riders and the competitive environment it creates. Knowing they wanted to make it a key feature of their expansion, we worked with them to install five ProSlide Water Rides that deliver a heightened racing experience across all age groups. The award-winning Dueling PIPElineBLAST the RallyRACER, the world’s first KIDZ RallyRACER, and two KIDZ ProRACERS create unique multi-lane experiences that drive repeat ridership. Having been around since the 1980s and seeing continual innovation and evolution, competitive racing is clearly here to stay. “Attracting families with new and inclusive family attractions is also becoming an increasing priority for parks. These operators are looking for thrilling, immersive attractions that stimulate the imagination of the park’s youngest guest, while also keeping the rest of the family entertained. Expertly designed family water rides not only accomplish this, but they also nurture and cultivate the park’s future audience by creating long-lasting memories of fun at the water park. The new custom ProSlide RideHOUSE at Europa-Park’s Rulantica is a perfect example of an immersive attraction that stimulates the imagination, keeps kids exploring and discovering new things. This aquatic play center is designed for the entire family to enjoy and also, integrates our ‘graduated ride experience’, which uses design to ready the park’s youngest guest for the next level of ride.”
