I think I speak for everyone when I say it was great to finally meet members of the industry again last month at IAAPA Expo Europe. Despite all the uncertainties around travel restrictions in the lead – up to the event, the conference and expo went ahead without a hitch. The global association’s largest event in Europe, which took place in Barcelona from 27 to 30 September, at the Fira Gran Via Barcelona venue featured 439 exhibiting companies, from 43 countries, highlighting what’s new for the industry. At the opening event of the new edition of the IAAPA Expo Europe, which took place on Tuesday 28 September at the Fira, the president and CEO of IAAPA, Hal McEvoy, highlighted the importance of recovering this annual meeting and seeing first-hand the great work carried out by professionals in the sector to carry out solutions that aspire to revolutionise leisure, as we know it now. “The industry professionals who are with us this week are committed to moving forward and are learning new ways to add technology to their businesses in response to the global pandemic. Technology has played a significant role as parks have added new protocols and security measures, as well as helped enhance the visitor experience and support sustainable efforts,” he said. I spoke with several exhibitors both at the show and afterwards and they all seemed to agree that despite the expected reduction in visitors, those who had made the trip were serious about buying.
