CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR IGAMING AND SPORTS BETTING The Spain office started modestly, with a small team focused on providing essential compliance testing and certification services. Over the years, however, it has grown into a global center of excellence for digital gaming, reflecting BMM’s growth and the expanding complexity of the gaming market. The office, which grew from 63 employees in 2021 to over 120 today, handles a broad spectrum of digital gaming testing and certification services, including iGaming, sports betting, poker, virtual sports, bingo, lottery, fantasy sports, and social casino.
BMM tests, inspects, and certifies to any standards established or adopted by gaming regulators, and its reports are accepted by the regulatory authorities of nearly every regulated jurisdiction worldwide.
“In the early days, we focused on land-based gaming machines and casino systems,” Turrini says. “Now, our work covers online gaming platforms, sports betting systems, virtual currencies, and emerging technologies like augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR).”
A significant factor in the Spain office’s evolution has been its adaptation to the shifting sands of technology. The rapid rise of online gaming, the proliferation of mobile devices, and the increasing integration of AI and blockchain technologies have all driven the demand for new testing methodologies and standards.
Turrini said, “It’s been rewarding to see the growth of BMM Spain and build a team of experts who are focused on serving our digital clients across the globe. Part of being the center of excellence for digital gaming means we have experts in payment solutions and testing for PCI:DSS, geolocation testing, and all the managed security solutions that an iGaming or sports betting operator or supplier would need, including penetration testing, vulnerability assessments, live studio compliance audits, and cloud security testing.”

Another vital area of focus is the testing of sports betting systems. With the explosion of online sports betting, especially in Europe and rapidly advancing across the globe, there’s an increasing need to ensure that these systems are secure and reliable. “We rigorously test betting algorithms and

interfaces to ensure they are both secure and fair,” says Turrini. “This includes everything from the accuracy of odds to the integrity of the betting process.”
Additionally, BMM helps the clients navigate the complex regulatory landscape and maintain optimal, compliant digital operations. The Barcelona team consists of experts in digital technology and gaming regulations, committed to delivering agile and high-quality services.

We are working on developing best practices for evaluating these technologies.”

We also help educate regulators, particularly in new markets, on compliance and emerging technologies.” BMM Spain regularly conducts training sessions for European gaming regulators, such as recent training for Greece’s Hellenic Gambling Commission (HGC).

And while we work hard, we also make sure to have a good time at work, celebrating our successes and supporting each other.”
After work hours, the team enjoys paddleball and ping pong tournaments, yoga and bachata classes, and holiday celebrations.

Digital gaming is growing globally, while in the more mature European markets, we see an increasing focus on mobile and live dealer games. Brazil has just opened for iGaming and sports betting and is on the cusp of full land-based gaming.
