Duncan Pollock, DR Gaming Technology’s Head of Global Marketing talks to Jon Bruford


Jon Bruford: In April you shared a story with us relating to your installing of the Seychelles’ first-ever wide-area progressive jackpot, but there’s been some other goings-on in that regard too, hasn’t there? Duncan Pollock: Yes Jon, there has. In addition to the installations you mentioned across Gran Kaz’s casinos in Seychelles, we’ve really seen an upswing in operators looking to extract more value from their existing products. A move we believe is not only a current sign of the times, but also an evolution of the way businesses in general are looking at greater efficiencies. What we’re advocating and have succeeded in doing is being able to not only provide operators with a technology solution that places the full dynamic of the jackpot in their hands, but also allows them the ability to actually create their own jackpot themes.


JB: So, you’re saying that as an operator I could now design the theme, implement the graphics, and configure the actual jackpot, its mysteries, and the like myself? DP: Exactly that! Our systems-based jackpot configuration options give operators the flexibility to manage and present any number of jackpot options to as wide a range, or as narrow a range of players as they wish, and whenever they see fit. Options like mystery jackpots, time-based jackpots, occupancy- based jackpots, or a ‘normal’ linked progressive all paid to card, cash or ticket, with the further options then to reward one player, offer a shared jackpot, a burst of follow-up jackpots, and even a payout to a charity of choice.


JB: So that’s slots jackpots. At ICE last year you launched the Infiniti Tables Arena with the idea to take that slots floor jackpot excitement to ‘the pit’; you’ve done some other tweaks to your table offerings since then, correct? DP: We have indeed, you are a man with your finger on the pulse Jon – ha ha. Tables has always been labour intensive and relatively slow: from the actual game play itself with a live dealer, to the inspectors, Pit Bosses, cashiers, and the like, to the dealing of the actual games themselves. So, we spent some time looking at where we as a systems service provider could make things simpler and quicker for both tables’ operators and tables players. What we have now developed are two new


bits of technology: • One that reports on real-time chip inventories at a table; and another


• That now allows for the easy integration of note acceptors, as well as ticket readers and/or printers into our tables management system


JB: Nice! So, better reporting and fewer queues? DP: Indeed! The real-time chip inventory capability affords operators the ability to better manage individual tables during a shift; and speaking of that we’ve also added in the ability to be able to capture a players actual buy-in type at the table eg. with free play, a ticket, cash, points etc. allowing for even more granular reporting.


JB: And then in respect of the integration of the cash and ticket handling peripherals? DP: As you know, while we’re a massive advocate of cashless, cash remains a key component of specifically tables play, and tickets remain core to the slots offering in many jurisdictions too. So, what we’re now able to afford tables players (and operators) is the ability, in addition to buying-in with a player’s card, to also do so with Tickets and directly via note acceptors; and similarly, cash- out to card and ticket too. What this does is mitigate the irritation, and time wasting, of having to stand in cashier queues to change tickets or cash to chips, and vice versa, and also allows players to easily migrate between slots and tables and even buy-in with the part value of a ticket at a table, and get the remainder returned straight away on a new ticket.
