I can’t believe it’s the middle of the year already. Some would add that they can’t believe it’s not butter, but I can believe that; it doesn’t taste – or even look – anything like butter. Other things I can’t believe include the recent happenings in Philippines, Australia, and even Macau. I knew the world had gone a bit mad, but some events have been beyond belief. I won’t recount them here, I’m sure you all know the score. But every year I keep thinking, we can do better. We can have higher standards, just for ourselves, and then I remember I’m probably an idealist at heart and this is in fact reality. Idealism and reality don’t mix nearly as well as I would like. The industry continues to rebound, with the exception of Macau which has taken a massive step backwards thanks to the Chinese government’s hard line on COVID. There’s a part of me that looks at this and thinks, bit much lads; but there’s another part that thinks the rest of the world opened up a little too fast. I’m honestly not sure where I stand in the COVID debate. Sure, things needed to reopen and people need to be able to make their own minds up about personal risk. But at the same time, COVID really sucks, and many people are dying or being very, very ill, both short- and long-term. But the other side of that three-sided coin is, I’m so bloody bored of talking about COVID that I’m going to stop right now. Right. Now.
