AUTUMN ROUND-UP DRGT 2020: AN UPDATE

Duncan Pollock, Head: Global Marketing, DR Gaming Technology talks to Jon Bruford ahead of what would have been G2E 2020

Jon Bruford: The COVID pandemic has necessitated a change in the way casinos operate, as a systems service provider how have you had to adapt or tweak your product offering? Duncan Pollock: You’re so right Jon; almost all operators have been forced to make physical changes to their casino fl oors, specifi cally in respect of maintaining social distancing as well as in respect if maintaining the hygiene of their actual gaming hardware.

JB: So how does a systems supplier assist operators in managing physical distancing, and keeping things clean? DP: In a nutshell what our augmented tech now does is: • auto lock the EGMs on either side of an EGM as soon as it is activated (in so doing automatically enforcing social distancing); and then

• auto unlocks those EGMs after gameplay and locks the EGM that has just been played.

In addition, it also sends an automated

‘Please Sanitize’ message to staff to let them know that a specifi c EGM is no longer being played, that it needs to be sanitized, and then made available again for gameplay.

56 SEPTEMBER 2020

Pretty simple, and easy to install, but

extremely effective; and available to operators who make use of our drScreen technology, as well as those who don’t, with the only difference being the ability (or not) to customise the message players see.

JB: DRGT has always been a strong advocate of cashless gaming, which seems more relevant now than ever; have there been any developments here of late? DP: Yes, there have indeed, and in specifi c relation to our android drRoamingCashier application, which for all intents and purposes now allows for cashless Tables play too. Players can now both purchase chips at the table from a staff member via drRoamingCashier, and similarly cash out directly to their player card via the App too.

What this means in that no physical cash is required at the Tables themselves, and players no longer need to proceed to a cash desk to purchase chips or have to queue with ‘dirty’ ones when cashing out. In turn, the casino has less physical cash to be counted, the number of required ‘fi lls and credits’ decreases, and they also have far less chips that need sanitizing, as most chips

never actually leave the table. Its seamless, its quick, and its safe. JB: You have also made some additions to your access management solution, haven’t you? DP: Yes we have, we are now able to integrate a facial and thermal recognition camera into our drGate in so doing better managing not only staff and player access control, but the ability to measure body temperature too, and confi rm the wearing of a mask, ahead of persons accessing the gaming premises. The drGateCam can also easily be mounted onto a reception desk, to fulfi l the same function.

JB: In closing, at G2E last year DRGT México in association with AIEJA made a donation to Curando México, a non-profi t organization that sources and provides donated medical supplies to the needy; in a similar vein you’ve now developed a new, and rather special, jackpot option for casino operators. DP: Yes, I suppose you could say that; we have developed a ‘Charity Jackpot’ for want of a better word. What we now afford casino operators is the ability to create a separate bucket, if you like, as part of a new or existing
