Heat pump course gains C&G Assured status


A partnership between Daikin and City & Guilds has resulted in the manufacturer’s Altherma heat pump training package achieving Assured status. The independently assessed


programme is designed to support heating engineers working with heat pump technology. Engineers who successfully complete the Altherma heat pump training package can use the title Daikin Altherma Heat Pump Technician. City & Guilds Assured is a


quality standard that evaluates internally developed training


programmes against criteria covering areas such as course design, delivery, maintenance and evaluation. Daikin’s training package underwent a review process to assess whether it met the required standards. Daniel Jackson, UK training

Altecnic has launched a CIBSE- approved CPD exploring Heat Interface Units (HIUs), the BESA HIU test regime and their role in improving heat network performance. The free course, ‘Drivers for

A new certified training course aimed at increasing the quality of Heat Interface Unit installations has been developed by Bosch Commercial & Industrial in partnership with LCL Awards. The two-day course, held at the Worcester Training Academy, looks to help prepare installers for the incoming Heat Network Technical Assurance Scheme (HNTAS) and has been developed with the recently published ‘MEHNA Heat Network Installer Training Guide’ as its basis. The course focuses on the practical elements of installation and commissioning of HIUs with defined test methods that will need to become second nature


Showers on the road F-gas for heating installers


With the aim of supporting heating engineers looking to expand into the air conditioning market and build a more consistent, year-round income stream, Wolseley Renewables Centre has launched a new F-gas training course. As traditional boiler work slows during the warmer months,


many heating engineers are turning to air conditioning as a complementary service. The new F-gas course has been developed to support this transition, providing the certification required to legally handle refrigerants and install air conditioning systems, while building confidence in a new area of work. Since launching in April last year, Renewables Centre has


trained more than 500 installers in heat pump systems and now offers a growing portfolio of courses spanning heat pumps, solar PV and EV charging, helping installers diversify as demand for low-carbon technologies increases. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/926/22


UK installers are invited to take advantage of hands-on training from Flair Showers as the company takes its mobile showroom to plumbers’ merchants around the country. The Flair PRO vehicle will be travelling to a number of locations across the UK to showcase how easy it is to install Flair PRO shower enclosures. Starting in the South East, the Flair PRO mobile showroom then travels to the South West, up through the Midlands and North of the country, making its way to Scotland. What’s more, training participants can enter a competition to win a DeWalt 18V XR set of three cordless power tools to help make installations quicker and easier on site.


CPD explores role of hybrid systems in low carbon heating


Now available from Ideal Commercial Heating is a CIBSE- approved CPD on low-carbon hybrid heating systems, designed to help specifiers and building services engineers understand the considerations involved in selecting lower-carbon solutions for commercial buildings. The session provides an


overview of hybrid and bivalent heating systems, including how combining heat pumps with gas boilers can support emissions reduction while addressing practical constraints that can limit fully electric solutions. It explores factors that


influence system design, including system temperatures, electrical capacity, available plant


space and compatibility with existing infrastructure. The CPD also looks at the role of hybrid systems in supporting phased decarbonisation by allowing low-carbon technologies to be introduced alongside existing equipment. Other topics covered include the


challenges of providing domestic hot water in low temperature heating systems and the factors engineers should consider when assessing whether a hybrid or fully electric approach is suitable for a project. The CPD is available online and

Joining up in Brighton


A new Vaillant training facility has opened in Brighton following a joint initiative with Brighton MET College and Optimus Heating. The new facility is designed to help equip the industry’s future workforce with the practical skills needed for a career in plumbing, heating and low-carbon technologies. Brighton MET students played a key role in the


development of the project. Learners from plumbing, carpentry, multi-trades and construction courses helped build the space, creating a learning environment designed and constructed by students for students. “It is fantastic to see Brighton MET, Optimus Heating
