The biggest show in town

We live in a digital age where we can quickly access information at the press of a button or the swipe of a screen, or we can don a pair of goggles and instantly be transported to a virtual reality world and interact with fellow avatars. So who wants to give up time to travel long distances to visit exhibition halls in the middle of the country and pay surprisingly high prices for the privilege of consuming some predictably disappointing fare from a fast-food outlet? Well, the answer appears to be many thousands of us. Last year’s InstallerShow attracted over 20,000 visitors and with this month’s 10th anniversary event set to be signifi cantly bigger, the organisers are optimistic that visitor numbers will exceed previous records. So what’s the big attraction? Hundreds of manufacturers and suppliers will of course be taking the opportunity to promote their latest products and services, but that is only part of the story. We work in a sociable and interactive industry and responding to visitor demand for practical demonstrations, discussions and debates, the show organisers have set up a full programme of interviews, panel sessions and seminars. The additional bonus of being able to take advantage of exclusive show off ers, competitions and product giveaways is another tried and tested formula to get tradespeople through the doors. In this month’s issue our Exhibition Preview (see pages 18

-27) off ers just a sample of the many companies that are planning to take part at this year’s show. No doubt the event will continue to evolve and expand in the years ahead, but as it looks to widen its appeal, can it continue to grow without losing its core audience of heating and plumbing professionals? Will smaller exhibitors fi nd that their chance of being noticed is much diminished by so much competition? Like so much in life, it’s a numbers game and for now at least there’s no sign that the numbers are about to get any smaller.
