New homes the right fit for air source heat pump system

South East-based developer Riverdale Developments has completed a new scheme of 10 high-specification, energy- efficient homes using Baxi’s HP-50 Monobloc air source heat pumps. The homes, which feature a mix of three, four and five-bedroom properties, use a combination of underfloor heating and radiators. Jackson Plumbing & Heating Ltd., the appointed contractor, selected Baxi based on previous successful collaborations. Each property was fitted with

the HP-50 Monobloc unit and a compatible hot water cylinder. Baxi supported the project throughout, with specification manager Matthew Swatridge

Tapping into luxury build

Abode has supplied its Pronteau

PT1130 Prothia Monobloc Swan 3 IN 1 boiling water taps to Imperial Court, a new five- storey residential development in Slough by Langham Homes. Installed in all 55 apartments, the taps provide domestic hot and cold water, along with 98°C instant boiling water from a single spout. The chrome- finish model was selected to complement the development’s open-plan kitchen design. The taps are supported by the Proboil.2X boiler unit,

which allows for simple, toolless installation within standard kitchen base units. Fully compliant with Part G (3) of UK building regulations, the

Pronteau range was chosen for its ease of use, safety features, and suitability for modern living. Abode’s products align with the project’s focus on convenience and durability. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/625/30

Shoebox solution for refurb project

providing technical guidance from design through to installation. Ahead of the work, Baxi hosted a meeting with Jackson Plumbing & Heating, the electrical contractor, and Riverdale to review the technology and coordinate system integration. Baxi also handled the heating

system design, working with underfloor heating suppliers, and later provided assisted

commissioning to ensure systems were set up correctly. The company’s aftersales support, warranty offer and nationwide engineer network were key factors in the decision. With heat pumps still relatively new to many homeowners, ongoing support is seen as essential to help ensure correct usage, energy efficiency and long-term performance. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/625/28

Ashford Borough Council is installing Kensa Shoebox ground source heat pumps in 74 homes across Appledore and Charing, marking the council’s first use of this technology in its housing stock. The £2.2 million project is part of a wider £11.3 million retrofit programme to improve the energy efficiency of around 700 homes, funded by the government’s Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund and matched by the council. Working with a delivery

partner, improvements already delivered over the past 18 months include cavity wall insulation, external wall insulation, new windows and doors, underfloor insulation, air source heat pumps and solar panels. The compact Kensa Shoebox units are being fitted inside each

home, replacing existing oil, electric, and gas heating systems. Installation involves drilling boreholes to depths of around 100m to extract heat from the ground. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/625/29

Press-fit system wins the seal of approval

Halton Housing, a housing association with over 7,000 properties across the North West, has adopted Conex Bänninger’s >B< Press fittings in place of traditional soldered joints for its gas and water system installations. The decision followed a health and safety initiative aimed at removing the fire risks associated with on-site brazing. The >B< Press system uses a hydraulic tool to form secure, flame-free joints and is now used in most of Halton Housing’s boiler replacement work. The association’s gas

engineering team, responsible for installation, servicing and breakdowns, now uses press- fit methods for around 95% of relevant work. The number of jaws that are available for use in conjunction with the press

machines include mini jaws and adjustable jaws, which offers flexibility and time saving. Initial trials involved 15 and

22mm >B< Press fittings for gas applications. Engineers found that once pipe preparation was complete, each joint could be completed in a matter of seconds.

In addition to labour savings, the move has reduced the need for consumables such as solder, flux and gas canisters. Although press tools represent a higher initial investment, Halton Housing reports that the cost was recovered quickly. ◼ phamnews.co.uk/625/31
