he regulatory requirements on organisations of all sizes have continued to get more complex in recent years.


Keeping up with changing legislation and ensuring ongoing compliance can put a significant administrative burden on businesses, as well as incurring additional costs, diverting resources away from other projects and even slowing growth. Tis issue is not new, but it is becoming more


pressing – despite the fact that governments have already taken action to try and alleviate the burden on businesses. In the UK, for example,


the cross-government Business Impact Target (BIT) was introduced ten years ago as part of the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Act in an effort to reduce the cumulative costs of compliance on organisations. At the start of each parliament, the


Government sets a target for managing, and ideally reducing, the total economic impact of regulation on businesses. A new statement is issued whenever parliament changes. However, despite this effort, figures show that instead of falling, regulatory costs have grown substantially in recent years.
